Ongoing Beta Beta Testing: Wireless Dolby 5.1 for WiiM Ultra

Thank you, but that's what I've done and the issue persists. I have 5 different WiiM products and I'm using beta versions on all of them except for this one.
Hi,
I just received an official update(5.2.705556) to Amp pro, adding Dolby and persistent group beta 🙂.

I just tried the beta on the WiiM Amp Pro and it's not showing me the option to switch to 5.1 Surround. I have it linked to the original WiiM Amp. This works as expected when I tried it with the WiiM Ultra linked to the same original WiiM Amp.

I’m not seeing two devices in the group screenshot. ???

Oh, sorry! And your source is HDMI with Dolby 5.1 content? Do you have the beta firmware?
I posted a screenshot showing I'm on the latest beta. I've tried several Dolby source content such as shoes on Apple TV on an AppleTV 4K. It shows that it detects Dolby.

Are you using landscape mode on an iPad? The 5.1 option didn’t appear on mine until I turned it to portrait mode.

I have only tried it on Android. I can try on my iPad later. It worked on Android on the Ultra though.

I will try it later too.

BTW, 5.2.705556 was not the latest version (my mistake). I am not sure why the rocket was displayed 🤔.

Mine is the same.
There is no Dolby icon. The output icons on the device card are grayed out, showing front and surround.

Is this a bug in the app?

Very interesting , but a little confusing . Im very interested in adding surround channels ( two in stereo ) and keeping my front speakers as L/R . I have no interest at all buying a center channel.

I use a WiiM ultra as main streamer, watching movies through hdmi, and also have a WiiM pro and a ncore amplifier not used at the moment. Perfect for surround duties.

Do someone have any answers for my questions below :

1. Can I use my single WiiM PRO for both stereo surround channels - will it function wireless ? Do my WiiM PRO have to be setup to my wireless network to do this ?

2. Are there any glitches and bugs while watching a movie ?

3. Does the main WiiM ultra volume control also change the volume for the surround channels at the same time ?

4. Can you set a delay for the surround speakers ?

5. Does this surround feature function as a 4.0 system without center channel when using dolby digital and DTS movie sound ?

6. Are the surround speakers filtered ?

7. Are the 4.0 sound compressed, i.e. dont use the same bit rate as the original surround sound coming from the movie track ?

Has anyone had any luck tweaking the audio sync while using the 5.1 setup? In my case it seems to be content dependent, and needs to be tweaked each time. Also, sometimes I’m not able to fix it at all. ???

Hi Musician,

Please find our answers below:

1.
Yes, you can use a single WiiM Pro for both stereo surround channels. The left channel will function as the surround left, and the right channel as the surround right.

2. We have addressed some noise issues reported by beta users. Currently, there are minor UI bugs in our app, which we plan to fix in the next update.

3. We are improving this feature. At the moment, you can use the TV remote or the WiiM Ultra (acting as the master device) to control the volume of the surround channels simultaneously.

4. Currently, there is no option to set a delay for the surround speakers. Could you share more details on why you need this feature? Your feedback will help us understand your use case better.

5. At present, the master device handles both the front and center channels. In a future update, we plan to allow the center and front channels to be assigned to separate devices.

6. Yes, you can apply filters to each surround speaker as needed.

7. Yes, the maximum sample rate and bit depth for the Dolby surround system is 48 kHz, 16-bit, meaning the surround audio is compressed to this format when using Dolby.

Let us know if you have any other questions!

Is this really asking for a -ve delay for the rear surrounds, i.e. delay the front?

Can we substitute that with a manual sync of the master device? (I forgot to test it, but maybe it will work🤔.)

However, this should cause a lip-sync problem...

My answer : I would need some delay for the surround speakers , about 10ms to make the surround sound arrive at my ears at the same time as the front speakers. This is because I have to put my surround speakers on each side of my listening sofa. This is not a dealbreaker though.
Thanks for this 4.0 ability , many highend users wants to have the ability to combine surround with 2 channel listening when watching a movie. The center speaker option is not interesting for me , Im happy if 4.0 works.

Hi Musician,

Thanks very much for your detailed response.

You can adjust the audio delay by navigating to Device Settings > Sync Audio > Manual Sync. Gradually increase the delay to align the surround sound timing with the front speakers, ensuring all sound reaches your ears simultaneously.

Off topic but... will 4.0 allow you to output the same signal to both the front and rear L/R channels to the USB and line-out at the same time? This would solve another request that some people have. It would allow you to go to an external dac and send a signal to an analog VU meter like the Douk or Fosi at the same time.
