Hi,
I wanted to share my horrible experience trying to RMA a broken Wiim Amp Pro in Canada for two reasons. First, is so others can hopefully have an easier time. Second, is so Wiim can reevaluate their process, because this has 100% stopped my plans to outfit my house with Wiim amps.
I bought a Wiim Amp Pro from Bestbuy.ca and around 60 days later, it started making a horrible buzzing noise from the Subwoofer Out. I filed a ticket and they agreed that it was broken and should be RMA'd. Annoying, but these things happen. Here is where the problems began. They said I would have to deal with Bestbuy, instead of them, which is highly unusual past the 30 day point.
I called Bestbuy, and they were very confused by this. They told me to go back to Wiim. Wiim said go back to Bestbuy. After a couple of calls, Bestbuy told me to drive to a Bestbuy 1 hour away, where it could be sent in. I arrived there, and they told me this wasn't true, and to call a special bestbuy number (2 hours of gas + >3 hours wasted at this point).
After calling the special Bestbuy number, I was told to call a company called Gentech. I called them and the person there was confused about this and was unfamiliar with Wiim, and it took about 5 days of calls to finally get an answer what to do. They said I should instead call a company called Microland:
Here is their number: (905) 940-1982
They were also somewhat confused by this, but eventually said to file an RMA. Their RMA forum was broken and kept trying to charge me $75.00 for an "out of warranty" repair. Eventually, after more emails, someone over rode this and created the RMA for me. I then had to ship the amp at my own expense to Microland. At this point I'm at about 8 hours of time and $100.00 of gas + shipping costs into this process.
They acknowledge receipt on December 18th, but tell me it's out of warranty and to please reply to email with my proof of purchase. I do this and they never respond again. I call three times and finally get through to someone today who says they need to wait another 1.5 weeks for a new board to come for the amp. They also say, it's out of warranty and to provide the proof of purchase again
It's now been almost 1 month since Microland received the amp and 3 months since I started this process and I still have nothing. I'm fairly confident it would have been a better move time/money wise to throw the amp in the garbage and spend this time working a 2nd job to buying something new, which is perhaps the point of making this so difficult.
Wiim, you really need to reevaluate this process in Canada. It's beyond broken.
For anyone else about to undergo this unfortunate process, after verifying with Wiim the amp needs to be warrantied, directly call the microland number above to skip about 6 weeks of screwing around.
I'll try and update when I finally (hopefully) get a working amp back.
