FF/REW issues playing from NAS

Funny.... that sure brings back memories...

Once you install PCP on a Pi remote desktop to it and it'll look like this, follow instructions.

It's not the easiest to intstall, a bit difficult for noobs

We had a music server at one of my jobs before, it was an old Raspberry 2. We, R&D, installed it right under IT's nose with a VPN, a router and some configuration in our lab. We could sit at our desks and play music and IT had no clue about the huge music library we had downstairs.

Right now I got a Raspberry 4 plugged into a 4 input KVM... it's right in front of me. I run an xserver in my PC, then I use PuTTy to connect to it and then fire up xwindows. It's awesome. I've been doing Linux work like that since like the mid 90s.

Sure, I could always just press the switch, input #4, and be directly connected... but that would be too easy, huh? ;)

Thanks....

BTW. homeAssistant runs on a Raspberry. I was gonna download the image but then, for 120 bucks, I got the Green version which is fully configured hardware and accepts the antenna for more devices... so, it was a case of buying my way out of the work.

I see this issue when using WiiM Home both in the PC (win11) and my Android phone. Is WiiM Home involved in the process of downloading data from the NAS to the renderer?
If you've added the NFS mounted network share as a source in the Windows WiiM Home App (My Music) and are controlling playback from either the Windows WHA or the Android WHA (via Browse > Home Music Share >Media Server > WiiM Home) then yes, the Windows PC is serving the files to the Ultra (as .wav files over http).

WiiM devices do support SMB, though with this approach you are limited to folder browsing. SMB shares can be added using the Android WHA (Browse > Home Music Share: vertical ellipsis > Add Shared Folder).

THIS IS THE INTERFACE I'M MOST INTERESTED IN RIGHT NOW... it shows similar behavior, so I don't know if this is due to the control interface (exported device commands) or an intrinsic design of the Ultra. When I play the small files, I have full FF/REW control, but when I play the big ones, it takes a long time, so it makes playing the files sort of useless...
I've dabbled briefly with Music Assistant but wouldn't know where to start debugging. Assuming UPnP is used for playback it's likely that the Home Assistant server will be serving the files (much like the Windows WHA), which is why it's generally preferred to have the music server and storage on the same machine. A more efficient approach might be to run a OpenSubsonic/Plex/Jellyfin server on the NAS feeding Home Assistant.
