Headphones

I think I'm missing something with Squiglink and applying an EQ for headphone use via bluetooth.

Is there an easy way to apply the desired EQ curve to the output in the Wiim app, in my case the output being bluetooth with a pair of Oppo Enco buds? Is that how it works?

With you guys that have mentioned Squiglink in previous posts, what's the story?

I tried duplicating the playlist to another slot and messed with the smart settings there, but no audible difference.

thanks!

EQ doesn't work / isn't applied to bluetooth output.

Tell me more....? 😬

I have this adapter.

I believe that any Bluetooth adapter that is compatible with PS5 can be used with WiiM without the need for a driver.

For USB-C type, you need a conversion adapter like this one: the WiiM can supply power to the adapter via USB, but if you need more stable operation, you may want to connect a USB hub for PD charging.

Well, there is no denying that it will cost extra, but you might want to try just the Bluetooth adapter first. 🙂

Maybe headphones no longer needed in the near future?

So do they put your head in a vice then transmit a pair of ultrasonic signals for each ear for stereo? 🤣

There are lots of good headphones out there, but I'm particularly fond of the planar magnetic drivers like the ones in my Sundara phones. There are a number of different brands that offer that option over a broad price range. Since returns are pretty easy these days it might be worth trying one of them out.
Thanks! Have been visited a respected hifi shop today. Listened and compared Hifiman Sundara ( approx €300 ) , and the much more expensive Focal Hadenys ( approx €700 )

Brought my current Philips headphones X2HR with me, to be able making a 1:1 comparison.

Expected to experience a big difference with higher rated / priced phones!!

The Sundara punished the top of head seriously, a bit of painful experience. Focals felt crappy and did even not fully cover my both ears. It would be nice, if they did. Had almost fold my ears before operating.

SQ
However, both phones did not convinced me making any purchase worthwhile! imho no big ( notacible, substantial ) improvement at all, over the current Philips X2HR.
Not in detail, soundsage, separation, timbre . . bla bla .. etc.. Strange isn't it?
Indeed, personal preferences are subjective 😀

I had a pair of Philips X2HR, really enjoyed them and responded well to EQ as well.
I've listened to many high end headphones at hifi shows and was NEVER impressed by any for whatever reason:) I was always disappointed.
Having said that I own a pair of Focal Celestee now and love them, but had a certain criteria as they had to be closed back so as not to annoy my wife and good bass at low level so as not to make my tinnitus any worse, so maybe I just needed to know what I wanted?

As a die-hard Sennheiser fan, I can only say that after I bought the Philips Fidelio L3 in a sale a few years ago at a spot price of around €100, my opinion was shattered. I was thrilled from the very first moment! When the Fidelio L4 saw the light of day about a year ago, I couldn't help myself and had to buy it (unfortunately not quite so cheaply), especially as it supports the LDAC codec. It can also be used wired. I like my Sennheisers, but the Philips really suit me and are my current favorites. Before I hadn't really considered them, Philips seems to produce very good headphones, too.

Wow, thats a nice headset 👍 Thanks for your reply and suggestion. More expensive than i have tryd so far, but hey! Beter save some money for a while, to be able to buy something you were really looking for, and be happy with. They are very good looking as well 👌

My old, original 2016 AKG 701's sound clear as a bell, and have developed more in the low end since I got them (but not astoundingly so). They were horrible when I first used them.

My only gripe is I don't use them nearly enough these days, even when mixing by own music.

I got them heavily reduced as I believe they are end of line:)

I don’t have any stupidly expensive headphones but I do have a few good pairs as I have stated earlier.

Best SQ = B&W P7s (wired)
Most comfortable = Bose QC35 II (Bluetooth)

Both of these were £300+ when new. When travelling I tend to take the Bose as the noise cancelling is pretty good and they will last most flights. (I can’t imagine why people fly anywhere without noise cancelling headphones)

All of the others pairs I have dotted around the house aren’t as good. I have some B&W Px7s but they are flawed even in wired mode. They aren’t as comfortable ether their predecessors or the Bose. They are supposed to work in AptX HD BT but flip between AptX HD and SBC even though I haven’t moved away from the source at all.

I have some cheap wired Sennheisers and a pair of Bluetooth JBLs specifically for dog walking.

I recommend installing and using the 'Bluetooth Codec Changer' app (Google Playstore) when listening with the phone. After connecting to the headphones, the app will change to the saved configuration. You also don't have to dive into the developer options for optimizing LDAC settings etc. The configuration for different headphones can also be saved. Automatic switching after connecting...

Thanks for that but I’m not using with a phone. The source is an Avantree Oasis ++
The two devices oscillate between SBC and AptX HD and each time the signal changes the B&Ws insist on telling me.
If I use with an iPhone they stay on SBC quite happily.
No Android here
