Just got the Luxsin X9 in and set it up. Didn’t even put my Anti-Mode X2D in the chain (yet), simply worked with the 3 PEQs in each sub’s DSP, set crossover (used 30dB/Octave slope) in the X9, checked phase settings in the subs, ran a WiiM RC calibration, and already witnessing divine sound. Bass should clean up even more once I get time to set up the X2D, but I might not even bother!

Yes, of course. It just didn't send, it turns out.

This is the result I achieved. Don't pay attention to the HF drop, the sweep tone was cut off there. For some reason, it always drops off in the upper range when connected via USB.

I used to always do Harman. This time I decided to go for a flat response. And it's awesome. Now switching to Harman doesn't sound comfortable.

I achieved this result after adding more foam to the roof and finding the perfect blend with the subwoofer.

Did you consider B&K? It’s more mild than the Harman curve. I have found that there are sounds which are completely missing from normal listening unless at least B&K if not Harman curves are used. For example, on Dizzy on the French Riviera, No More Blues, there’s a deep sound of the waves crashing onto the beach and it needs a tilt or boost on sub bass to play. On the live concert recording of Eric Clapton playing Layla, without the bass boost, you can’t feel his foot stomping to the beat.

I ended up trying out DIRAC on my laptop and the result simply sounds another level improved over any previous room correction I’ve tried. No comparison. I’m still trying to figure out the best way to get a sweep out of the system with DIRAC active to show the results, but in the meantime my ears have never heard better from this system. As I must use the laptop for streaming to take advantage of DIRAC, I’ve since removed the WiiM entirely from my system, with hope (but no realistic expectations) that maybe in the future, WiiM will add the ability to buy a DIRAC license and apply it to the WiiM because RoomFit doesn’t come close. Having done that, my system is significantly less cluttered as well:

I have just the opposite example. After switching to flat, I heard things I had never heard before in tracks I know. For example, in one track, I can hear the guitarist tapping his hand on the guitar body. When I switch to Harman, this sound is not audible due to the excess bass.

However, for tactile sensations, I boosted the equalizer to the maximum at 30 Hz.

For some reason, it seems to me that you have a phase problem. That's why Dirac gives better results — it also aligns them. But Wiim doesn't.

Although you have KEF speakers, and they should have linear phase response.

The phase issue I had previously was due to the inconsistent sync timing when grouping two WiiMs (one for speakers, one for stereo subs); this was obvious because whenever multiple sweeps are run consecutively with UMIK-1 you see the frequency response at and around the crossover frequency would change with each sweep despite no change to any phase or delay parameters. Once I switched to the Luxsin X9 for bass management (it has a stereo subwoofer output), the phase issues were gone as the response was consistent--it certainly helps that the X9 has adjustable slope, unlike WiiM, as well as adjustable delay (with the latest beta firmware). DIRAC was then applied after the subs were correctly synced to the speakers using the X9.

Then everything is clear! The problem is indeed in the phases.

I have the Ultra, and it has a subwoofer output. The first thing I do is run the delay setup between the sub and the speakers. Only then do I proceed with the correction.

I run stereo subwoofers. WiiM only has mono sub output

My crossover is 150Hz; this eliminates the vast majority of distortion from LS50 Meta, which is primarily under 200Hz and dramatically increases at 160Hz and down, especially when played loudly.
