Issue with connection between Mac mini 2024 and Wiim Amp

Hi,
the fact is that no sound is going out of my passive speakers via streaming from my Mac mini (2024) connected to Wiim Amp with HDMI cable. The HDMI output is correctly selected on my iOs app. However, music is played normally by Wiim amp on these speakers when using the free access radios from Wiim iPhone app (wifi connection in that case I guess). The problem comes from the Mac settings I suppose. When trying to select Wiim amp as the output (in System settings - Sound Menu), a window appears (see the screenshot attached) that says in french to change the settings of the "Home app" in order to authorize something like "connected people from the same network". Well, I got a look on that application and couldn't find a way to do so. The same happens when I'm on YouTube and try to switch the audio output in Airplay menu from Mac mini speaker to Wiim amp. The output can't be changed to Wiim and the same window appears concerning Home app, which I don't what to do with ! Do you have any idea what to dot set things correctly ?Capture d’écran 2025-11-09 à 13.40.32.png

Ok. So how is it simply possible to listen to audio streaming materials (no wifi from iOs music apps) on my external passive speakers amplified by Wiim amp. Is another cable solution (usb-c on Mac and optical on Wiim) would change the problem ? I really have the feeling the issue concerns Mac settings, Airplay...and so on (I'm far being a specialist !), as shown on the previous screenshots.

Yes, you need something like this usb to optical converter taking usb from the Mac and delivering optical to the WiiM.

(Check if you need the usb a or usb c version)

And if you prefer a tiny box instead of a dongle try the Douk U2Pro. It costs also near nothing and the main advantage: It lights up blue. (Or even red if you feed it with DSD) 😉

Still, Douk U2Pro is sold around 60€ ! Anyway, I'll try to find that kind of usb/optical toslink in my city tomorrow which is not an obvious task ! By the way, I am really surprised that Wiim company forces its customers to equip themselves with exotic accessories like these adaptors, to operate the device in such a basic way ! Adaptors or cables which are only available on-line most of the time, through amazon, aliexpress or similar sites...

By the way, I had the U2 for two weeks borrowed from a friend for pure curiosity. It wasn't available from a local shop. Even Cologne was too small.
It worked between the Ultra and the Vibelink. Best to say: It does not make things worse. But from sonic side I noticed absolutely zero impact. Not to good nor to bad. Zero, nada, nothing. I only will miss the blue light from time to time 😉
Ok, it is another use case than yours..so I cross fingers you find a solution.

Back to your original post and issues with AirPlay, did you follow the instructions in this link using the apple home app on your iPhone?

In that app, select your main room (living room in my screenshot below), choose the three dots in the top right hand corner, then home settings to see the pop up screen shown. The choose “speakers and tv”, and choose “everyone”. Hopefully that will resolve the permissions error on the Mac and allow it to AirPlay to your WiiM over your network.

Quoi, ni FNAC ni Darty? Vous devez déménager! 🤣🤣

Edit: no summer holiday visit to a town in France was complete unless I visited at least one FNAC 😜

You experienced Darty and FNAC ! My poor fellow ! ha ha ;-)
Well, concerning Home app, as a (bad) coincidence (one more !), nothing appears like your screenshot ! I have created a living-room as you did but nowhere I found the possibility to create accessories, so it cuts short to your procedure !

Close the pop up screen you show in the screenshot.

On the main screen, again in the top right hand corner there’s a “+” sign from where you can choose “add accessory” and on the pop up screen that opens, choose “more options” to allow it to scan the network for your WiiM devices.

After that, the three dots in the corner, and “home settings” should bring up the speakers&tv option from where you can choose to allow “everyone” access

When I select "+" sign on the main screen, only "add a room" appears (= "ajouter une pièce" in french), but no "add accessory" anywhere (see screenshot below)

...and when I select "..." sign (= three dots), I got choice between "Home settings" and "Room settings" (= "Réglage du domicile" and "Réglages de la pièce", in French). Then , if I select "Room settings" I get the same window as on the previous screenshot.

I get this menu whether I select “home” or “living room” in this screenshot from the Apple Home app on my iPad Air 13 on iPadOS 26.0.1 - I’d need to investigate in what circumstances, like yours, that menu doesn’t appear.

One precision, all the previous screenshots I posted are from MacOs app (Apple mini), just because the iOs app on iPhone is faulty (you can download it from App Store but you only have access to an empty blue screen with nothing else when opened.

Ok, as I said I’m using my iPad and the app there. Sounds as if you may be in a catch-22 situation until the iOS Home app is fixed although I might have expected the macOS app to function the same. I’m probably at the end of my Apple knowledge as I don’t have a Mac, so unless someone can pitch in with further advice, you may need to go down the physical cable/converter route rather than pursuing a fix for AirPlay. Sorry and good luck…

Usually Macs have optical out through the 3,5mm connector, you need an adapter toshlink-mini toshlink. Not sure of your mini but at least google says 2024 Mac mini has the optical out.
