just wanted to signal, that I got an Ultra now, as well, in addition to my Pro Plus ( that I run with a Shanti Allo linear PSU and an SMSL SU-1 DAC). Couldn't be happier!

I also have these 2 DACs and I hear the differences. SMSL is more extensive in bass. With the same EQ, the same volume, there is more bass.

Instead, the DAC from WiiM plays brighter on top.

You mean, the same volume setting or the same volume?

Such massive differences in tonality don't technically exist between such similar devices. If you perceive such a difference, there's pretty much for sure a different explanation.

Unless the smsl is coloring the sound thus not doing what a dac should be doing, you are not hearing.. you are imagining.
The ultra already has features to eq if you want to so in terms of transparency, you cannot get a better DAC since it's already transparent beyond human capabilities

I agree with that, but I still prefer my main dac over the ultra's analog out, no matter what actually causes the difference.
And yes, it's nowhere near as big a difference as applying some peq or RoomFit, but it's there.
I'm merely suggesting that there's no need to make every post a tirade.

To be honest, I am not sure why you are so fervently. You are not losing any money. And in my opinion, if there is anyone you should be fighting against, it is the guru, not the believers. (Amirm, for example, appears to be fighting against the guru.)

It seems that you listen to numbers. SINAD - a number referring to a single frequency, ignoring a whole matrix of parameters left out. Others listen to music playback and choose what makes them recall music in a real space.

As others said, you ought to think for yourself and allow others to do the same. OK?

Ah the typical ridiculous reply from believers..like one either "listens" or reads graphs. Then you follow up with the usual fluff and excuses....you can talk ALL day about the "other parameters" but when it comes to REAL WORLD FACTS, none of you ever can pass a single proper blind test.
Like I said many times...IF you can prove in a blind test that you can tell the differences you claim to hear, yet we are not capable of measure those traits you proved you can detect, then we will surely have to fix our measurements. But the fact is, THAT has never happened.
Either the people claiming to hear all those differences described in beautiful prose, suddenly are unable to hear when tested or they quickly decline.
