Hi everyone,

I've had a Wiim Sound Lite for a few days now. It's sitting on a shelf in my kitchen, and unfortunately, I'm quite disappointed for now.

Maybe it will improve with a few tips.

The style, build quality, and the app are fantastic.

I ended up with Wiim because I bought a Wiim Amp Pro for my passive speakers in the living room...everything's great there.

The downside of the Sound Lite in my case is that it doesn't fill the small room with sound as much as I'd hoped/expected.

The sound is rather localized and not at all immersive. I think it's also not well-balanced. The bass is indeed very punchy, but it also booms.
Overall, the sound isn't harmonious; the highs and lows don't match, and it just doesn't sound as good as it should.

I can't seem to get rid of the booming. It's like having a large subwoofer in a bad spot in the room.

Previously, I had a "Peaq Munet 700" speaker for years in the same place in the kitchen.
I sold this speaker while waiting for the Sound Lite.

It was 12 years old, there was no app for it anymore, and I was only using it via Bluetooth.
And what can I say...it sounded much better, even though it wasn't as high-quality as the Sound Lite.
It filled the room, no booming, no Need for EQ, Room-fit or so.

Speaking of EQ... I've been trying to adjust the settings for days to get a satisfactory sound, but unfortunately, it never sounds quite right.

Maybe I should try the parametric EQ, but I have absolutely no idea how to use it.

I'll look for tutorials and try everything I can.

I don't want to send the Sound Lite back because I love the idea that it might still win me over. Besides, I think the whole Wiim system is fantastic.

So, do you have any tips, good tutorials for the parametric EQ, or similar experiences? I'm completely new to streaming... is it possible or likely that future updates will improve the sound?
I truly appreciate any answer or advice, and thank you so much for reading my novel.
I translated the text online; I hope I was able to express myself clearly. I don't hate the Sound Lite, but I'd really like to just love it and have fun with it.

Cheers, Chris

Hi what music source are you using? Di you run the Room fit feature? this can help a lot.

Something I`ve realized with these type of 360 speakers is that placement is fundamental in delivering the sound you want, sometimes they like to be places against a wall or corner in order to bounce the sound of walls, cabinets etc..

Try using different music sources like Spotify, Tidal or streaming/casting directly from PC or phone or if you have the chance to connect any other source to its Aux port, and see how it varies. The WiiM App has a lot of sound config options, I agree with you that Parametric EQ is way to scientific for me  .. but try creating your own graph EQ and maybe adjusting the gain in different sources and see if that helps.

It's a classic case of try before you buy! I have a 700 euro Naim (which is okay) but I listen almost exclusively to a 45 euro JBL Bluetooth speaker! It's 99.9% subjectively personal what you like. Ignore reviews and the opinions of others (at least in this respect).

Thanks a lot guys for your instant answers.
I switched off the dynamic bass and the room fit feature was the first thing i used multiple times. Nothing that improved my specific problems.
The problem is the placement, too near to the wall and to a corner, too. That's where the booming happens and overall is producing this not too lovely sound. I am sure now after trying in another room in open space.
I was looking for another Wiim product, as i said, as I am totally happy with the Wiim system.
Something to plug & play and have fun with music while prepairing meals or sitting with a friend, not complicated, just streaming Spotify or online radio via smartphone , Wiim Home app, WLAN.
I did not think about the 360 and that there could be problems...a classic case of try before you buy, absolutely correct.
Unfortunately I have no other place for the speaker in the kitchen...but I will keep it. Maybe I can manage to improve the sound in any way or i use it in another room or whatever. I like it too much.
Thanks guys

Maybe an Audio Pro speaker of the W generation would better suit you. They supposedly blend into the WiiM ecosystem very well and they have those classic directional all-in-one boxes.

What settings did you use for Roomfit? Do you have a USB microphone.

No USB microphone, just Android smartphone, not quite ideal, I know.
I will dive deeper into roomfitting now, maybe I can organize a real microphone as well. I will not give up, thanks a lot 👍
Yes. Try with a proper calibrated USB mic. The Android phone microphones usually only makes it worse.

it doesn't fill the small room with sound as much as I'd hoped/expected.
How small?
A single Sound in my kitchen (not small, but not really big either) was similarly ineffectual, but I didn't have punchy nor boomy bass like you describe. Quite the opposite in fact.
Two Sounds in the kitchen was a significant improvement, but probably not the solution you were looking for!

Could you post a screenshot of the final Roomfit results?

This is the raw response of the WiiM Sound (WS) placed in my bedroom. The WS is positioned 30cm away from the wall, and the listening distance is 2.2m.

Like you, when I first heard the WS's sound, I felt the bass was boomy and the overall balance was off. Of course, this varies depending on room conditions, placement, listening distance, etc. However, if you get a similar response from your WS, I think simply suppressing the peak around 70Hz could potentially reduce the boomy bass.
(I think you can find this bass peak even with the phone's built-in microphone.)

For the mid-to-high frequencies, you might want to try the speaker EQ settings @dominikz recommends. (I'd be happy if @dominikz could offer some advice later.)

@Chris1974

Set the same values in the RoomFit settings screen and run RoomFit.

When Moving Mic Measurement (MMM) is enabled, pink noise will play for 30 seconds during measurement. Slowly move the phone around the listening position (within a sphere of 60cm to 1m). Ensure there are no obstacles between the phone and the speaker during this time.

Also, since MMM is prone to picking up room noise, increase the volume slightly above your usual level and ensure there is no noise from air conditioners, refrigerators, or similar sources.

@Chris1974 Once you first run RoomFit as @Wiimer suggested (which should take care of the boominess), you can add on top of that these PEQs in "EQ" menu to address mid and high frequencies (note that RoomFit and EQ can be used at the same time - see this FAQ article):

Bands #3 and #4 are intended to address the IMO excessive brightness.
Bands #1 and #2 are meant to bring back some presence to the midrange (e.g vocals and guitars) - mainly to counteract what I perceive as an upper-midrange scoop in the stock tuning.

There's unfortunately not much we can do about the lack of envelopment/immersion, but hopefully these tonality fixes will help improve your experience a bit!

It's about 12m² but with different wall cabinets shrinking it to maybe 10m²...
My very first thought after the inital disappointment was " I need a second one"...but that would be ridiculous.

Well guys thanks a lot for your kind effort trying to help me out & many thanks to all the others, fantastic knowledge, I really appreciate!!!

I'm in a little hurry today and just tried a quick room-fit, tomorrow I can probably manage to have more time and stay focused.

I made exact the settings for room-fit as suggested and what was the biggest surprise for me... before I started the room-fit process, I placed the speaker just about 30cm more to the right, rearranging the shelf, so the distance to the wall / cabinet on the left expanded.
After that small change, the sound was much better generally, a solid foundation for further adjustments I guess.
The boom was reduced but still there at the "new" spot and also not very much difference before and after the fit.

Here are the screenshots of my first and only fit for today...doesn't tell me too much what to do now.
I would adjust by ear.

Thanks for the screenshot. From this result, we can see that the microphone measurement shows no excessive bass, meaning RoomFit is not correcting the bass.

Based on your listening experience, you might try the following to identify the frequency causing the boomy sound.

Edit your saved RoomFit profile and change bands 8, 9, and 10 as follows:
742.jpg
After making changes, turn off Bands 9 and 10, then press the Save button to save.

Next, listen to some music and check if the boomy sound has been eliminated. Then, turn off Band 8 and turn on Band 9. Listen to the music again to check. Next, turn off Band 9 and turn on Band 10, then check the sound.

This should likely pinpoint the cause of the boomy sound.

The above bands 8, 9, and 10 are (rough) filters designed to reduce the three peaks in the correction results you submitted.

Edit: If you try this, remember to save every time you edit the profile.

To the OP: Leave the Sound Lite turned on, playing music or some white noise for a few days. It seems to need ‘break-in’ more than others.

Assuming the speaker is some distance from side walls, measure the distance from the center of the speaker to the rear wall - call it L. Calculate the attenuated frequency f:

f = 340/(2L)

where L is in meters, and f in Hz.

Using the WHA EQ, apply a PK boost at the frequency f, start with +2dB. gain and a Q of .4 to .8

Try it and see if you like it better.
