No way of using the ultra without Internet?

For fun, I decided to power off my router to test if the Phono input, Line-in, or even the USB drive could still function without an internet connection. To my disappointment, all it does is power on the screen and prompt me to use my phone to set it up.

It really shouldn’t require internet just to play records from a turntable. Is there truly no way to bypass this limitation? It would definitely come in handy in a scenario like, say, an apocalypse.

The ultra is primarily a network streamer under the control of its app and so it’s perhaps not surprising it defaults to trying to connect to a network in start up. Perhaps WiiM could introduce an offline mode, but in the event of an apocalypse, putting on a record wouldn’t be top of my list…

It's The End Of The World As We Know It 👍

Perhaps not, though I’m not entirely sure. I do believe that many people find great comfort in music during truly difficult circumstances.

That said, we don’t have to go as far as imagining an apocalypse. Maybe you’ve just moved into a new apartment, you’re renovating your home, or dealing with a terrible internet connection. There’s really no reason why I shouldn’t be able to listen to my records.

A request is coming up!

I did a quick test: shutdown the router's Wan interface and I could start playing music from my local DLNA server. That's with a Pro Plus however.
