I would like to use the phono input with a small CD player but am getting garbled output. Can I use this phono input for input devices other than phono, with clear sound? I've run out of other inputs into my Ultra.

I assume you are asking about the phone input on an Ultra that is for connecting a turntable. That input include a RIAA amplifier and can only be used for connecting a turntable without the RIAA built in.

What do you currently have connected?

Also what is the CD Player and what Amp is the Wiim Ultra connected to?

Alternatively, to rig up a phono input and allow the addition of a standard line input to it... you could look for a small ""RIAA inverse""
;-)

Something like that, but even if it is technically possible it
a. adds an extra stage of noise and distortion
b. requires a very precise RIAA curve → otherwise you get sound errors
c. it is unnecessarily complicated
There are good reasons why it is mainly a diy tinkering.
Buy you a good RCA switch, there are even devices with remote. A cheap one f.e. is this:

I don't disagree with you... but you're exaggerating a lottle the negative impact a bit... there are still passive approaches...
;-)

And I know people who prefer using it with high-quality phono stages, even valves etc, for subjective reasons, but respectable ones...
But honestly, you're right here,
the phono input is rather "unpretentious", not really relevant to my point...
;-)

Does not every subjective reason require respect from others? 😉
