Playlists as presets

When you set a playlist to a preset and then later modify the playlist the preset doesn't reflect that change. For example if I add several songs to a playlist they are not there in the preset.

You can fix it by manually re setting the preset, but is there some way to handle this automatically? And if not is this a feature we can see in the future?

Which service are you using? TBH that surprises me as I'd just see a preset as a pointer to the playlist and not to its contents

A playlist is stored as a copy with the Preset. You can modify the playlist in the Preset independent of the original.

I don't think that is the correct design but that's how it is for now.

Really? So if I preset my 2604 track Amazon favourites playlist, those 2604 (or the 500 limit people sometimes mention) tracks' details are stored as a preset on my device? Doesn't make any sense...
If it is what you say, it's sounds like it's presetting the play queue rather than the playlist

Let say you set an album as a Preset.

Then later select that Preset and while it is playing you want to hear another album after that. You select the other album and in the album menu select "Play After". The WiiM then play this album after the first but as a surprise the Preset now contains both albums, although you never set the last album in the Preset!

Totally illogical and can't see why you'd want that as a result - as I edited above, sounds like the preset is saving the play queue not the entity you bookmarked..

Yes. The Preset becomes a new playlist based on what is selected or playing that can only be edited while playing.

You can edit the list without having to set it as a Preset again.

I don't like it for sure, so only using Preset for Radio.

That is strange.
My main preset on all my wiims is My Collection (or whatever it's called in Tidal for all the individual songs I've "liked") and whenever I choose it on any of them it has all the latest songs I've added in the Tidal app itself.

I think it has to do with how the Preset was initialized.

For example when adding a Spotify playlist it must be copied, as there is no API to get it from Spotify. While the Tidal API support it.

Amazon Music.

In the case of Amazon music, my playlists are not auto updated. Therefore, you will need to register the preset again. (Overwrite save.)

Also, if you have multiple WiiM devices, you will need to overwrite and save the presets for each device.

However, if you have a weekly playlist provided by Amazon, the presets are auto updated. For example, the "Girl Squad" playlist that I listen to most often is auto updated weekly.

If you update the playlist in the "Now Playing" list while playing, I think the Preset is updated but not the original playlist.

Sorry, I did not understand what you are saying.

Add 1 track to My Playlist in AM. My Playlist now has 250 tracks instead of 249. Then I press the preset button on WHA and look at the cue for that playlist and it is still at 249 tracks. If register the preset again while that playlist is playing, it becomes 250 tracks.

If you add it to the "Now Playing" cue in the WiiM Home App, it will be added to the Preset that started that cue.

You can do that using e.g. "Play Next" or "Play Last".

Unfortunately there is no documentation about this, so we need to experiment.

You're right, but what good would that do: 250 duplicate tracks would be added to the 249-track preset, completing the 499-track preset.

No, you can edit the current playing list and add, delete or rearrange individual tracks. That will just update the Preset list.

This functionality is of no good. Actually very bad to my opinion. It is just as it works.

I'm talking about AM; the AM queue cannot be rearranged..
