I really love the WiiM Amp so far. Most music I listen with the Amp is using Plexamp + Chromecast to WiiM Amp.

A native Plex Integration would be highly appreciated. Integrated in the WiiM Home App and additionally as Plexamp compatible player in the network since listening to music with Plexamp is way more fun.

I would absolutely beta test this feature.

Any updates on this project. I don’t want to go back to raspberry pi and ropieee. I suspect that you can just download the code from the Plexamp site. Please please

Yeah, as you’d expect, I’m aware of that but that doesn’t mean the resources are available to do it.
Plex definitely seems strapped for resources much of the time. Their client support list is outrageously long and their product development has been shifting away from power users to more explicit revenue generation.

I need to be in the WiiM app to link additional rooms, anyway, so no big issue for me to browse there while at home. Only time I'm in Plexamp now is to download albums for mobile listening.
Agreed. Plex has been too busy releasing their shit storm of a new 'experience'. It's worked fine for me but I've spent a lot of time fine tuning my network. But, PlexAmp hasn't really seemed to move much. I'm still dealing with the fact that my Ultra can't play files without transcoding via ChromeCast. It would be nice if we could see the Wiim products as an endpoint instead of them developing a pseudo app.

In the meantime we got a webradio widget on the Ultra literally nobody was asking for and doesn't even show any stations in my country 🥲

Maybe that was produced as they weren’t relying on a third party like Plex to participate in its development 🤷‍♂️

It sure must've been a lot easier as most of the code was probably there already in the WiiM Home App. It has never been on the roadmap even.

I've just tested current plex implementation with USB output to external DAC and it looks like it is downsampling everything to 16/44.1
Check your USB Output Settings on the Wiim. Nothing seems to get passed through as it is, dsd gets converted to pcm, but the last time I checked, high-res files were fed to my dac at their original bitrate.

You're right, I've just checked, if I select usb output specifically it does change rates.

casting directly from the plexamp app on my phone to the wiim, like i did with sonos before. not sure i could do it before.

Have you recently enabled Google Cast on your device (Device Settings > Voice and Streaming > Google Cast)?

When casting from PlexAmp, the Now Playing screen in the WHA will identify the protocol in use.

You're probably right it says "google cast" next to Wiim, since i don't have a chromecast i was confused by your previous answer.
Anyway i guess music quality is probably not as good this way but for the moment i'm using my wiim on the active speakers next to my computer so not the best audio system ever
:)

Anyway, as i said, i couldn't do that before, don't know if it's an android update or a plexamp that changed it but at least i can use plexamp functionalities instead of Plex.
Considering the age of this thread and the priorities of the Wiim team, i'm not sure we'll see a plexamp integration very soon so, at least, i'm happy with that.

And I guess that's up to whether / how plex recodes the audio for chromecast.
Chromecast can handle 24/192, its main drawback, imo, is that it's (usually) not gapless.
Well, that and multiroom audio restrictions.

you're probably right, do you know where i can easily check this? plexamp parameters i'd guess?
As i mentioned it's very likely quality isn't the best but in my specific case, considering the audio system i use it on, it would probably wouldn't make any difference and, at last, i can enjoy plexamp functionalities which was my main issue.
Also, as i mentioned, not sure a plexamp integration is on top of the list of the Wiim roadmap right now.

EDIT: i can easily change the output in plexamp not exactly if it also affects the cast quality or not

I mean this in the nicest way possible... if you can't tell then it doesn't matter!
yeah that's the way i took it, no worries. i'm planning to plug another wiim on a stereo system in the future, it may be a different story i guess, we'll see.
Hopefully we'll get an endpoint in the near future but i won't hold my breath
