Room Correction Help – Analysis and Advice

Genelec is 'studio monitor', and many have said that they MAY sound too 'clinical' and therefore boring. Good imaging has been my goal, and now turned boring. No no no no, I just need a new DAC, which is loud to color the sound a bit. 🎨🌈

That might be a good fit for me too. I'll have to look into it. (It can be ordered pre-built and the price is right). 🫦

You might see it as „boring“,
The Pro dac and the clinical Genelec speakers sounded boring together. Not just the Pro. The Pro is bad at other things .. sorry ,😁

I've now connected my old AUNE Dac/pre amp/headphone amp/compo to the Pro. I'm sure the passive volume controller colors the sound a bit too. That volume controller has two inputs and two outputs. I can connect two DACs to it, and do ABX listening sessions. Pressing a button: source A, source B. and analyzing. 🎧 Senheisser 650. Well, Pro doesn't have phones out.

Yes, it's crazy what Pro can do. 🌞

I am sorry, I thought you were referring to Pro+

Just note that this kind of AB comparisons require tight level-matching (ideally to better than 0.1dB).
Very small level differences have been shown to affect the results - even when subjectively the level appears to be the same.

And also note that this would be a (sighted) AB test, not really an ABX. ABX protocol requires 1) that the test is done unsighted, and 2) that the subject needs to match an unknown 'X' with the known 'A' or 'B'.
A well-prepared ABX test controls for more sources of bias (and error) compared to a sighted AB test.

Of course there's nothing wrong with doing sighted AB tests, but it is good to be aware of their limitations compared to formal ABX.

I'm confused about the Terminology, it's been a while since I played so-called 'hi-fi.' Thanks, of 'course' I meant that AB comparison test. I don't even know what ABX is. Okay.

It was mostly a joke that I would do some strict AB analyses ..

However I also came up with a great way to add more fun to myself, by asking
IA what those PURIST are talking about on the Wiim forum today.

For example, yesterday Gemini said that PURISTS will hate that if their expensive hi-fi equipment will sound like a 300€ streamer, what they have. 😂

Today Gemini says example:
"4. Technical Deep Dives
DAC Filters: The WiiM Amp Pro DAC filter types are being scrutinized. Purists are sharing frequency response graphs to determine which of the seven filter settings offers the most "authentic" roll-off."

Gemini 👍 . Try it yourself. 😁 It's fun

:)

On a serious note, my advice is not to spend too much time thinking about the 'sound' of amps, DACs, DAC filters, etc.

Recording quality, transducers, and their interaction with the room is what makes a lot of difference. The rest not so much (unless basically broken).

Hello!

Of the two, phase at 0° looks better to me. If you like how it sounds I'd say there's no need to tweak further.

The sub level seems to be set a bit high though, we can see that RoomFit is reducing almost 25dB just below 50Hz.
If you turn the sub off, how does RoomFit look with just the speakers playing?

By the way, how did you come to 8ms latency? That would imply that there's either 8ms of processing happening in the sub, or that the sub is 2,7m further away from the listening position compared to speakers (sound travels around 34cm distance in 1ms) - or a combination of both factors.

Using my past case with another system / sub it was definitely delay of sub processing. Mine was like it was +5 meters regarding main speakers. When I measured that and configure it accordingly, I had the most perfect time alignment I haver had or eard on friends systems.
