I use a Pro Plus and am confused with RoomFit opposed to EQ. How do I use this, set them up? I have been using EQ but it sounds muffled, mids and highs aren't good.

For more information on the differences between EQ and Roomfit and how to use them, you may find the FAQs useful.

Room Correction Getting Started

Also, take a look at @dominikz's excellent advice. You will find recommended values for each of the RoomFit parameters later in this post. Also you may want to try the new 'Cut-Only mode' added to RoomFit.

Run RoomFit. It will turn off EQ. Listen and love it.

Then if you want to turn EQ on and dabble with a setting or such, go ahead.
In my system, I've found that leaving the EQ off is overall preferred.

Apologies if this is a dumb question. I'm planning to give roomfit a go this weekend on my amp ultra. My issue is I use two different speaker positions, one for 'casual listening' with the speakers next to the TV unit and closer to back wall, and one for 'serious listening', with the speakers pulled out into the room. I'm assuming if I did roomfit calibration for one position, it wouldn't work for the other?

It would likely be better to run roomfit / save the profile per position.

That's what I was thinking. Thanks. I have an old Android phone (Samsung a53 5G) so presume I'd need to get a usb mic for any kind of accurate measurement?

I did find that using an external mic (dayton, in my case) improved roomfit accuracy

Thanks. Is the Dayton mic about the cheapest decent usb mic to use for getting a reliable outcome for roomfit? I don't want to get one of those umik ones as they're $200 here and I'm not paying that.

Not a joke at all. Having the speaker close to the wall changes the Speaker Boundary Interference Response. Room correction takes care of the bass boost caused by the proximity of the wall. Try RoomFit in both positions and see how they compare 🙂
I'll give it a try. Is there a specific distance recommended? Asking 'cos my speakers (KEF LS50 meta) are already about 20 cm from the wall

Short answer: push them as far back to the wall as possible, just leave about 5cm clearance for the back port to work correctly.

A longer answer with some explanations, references and exceptions in this post.

Hope it helps!

While it is true RoomFit has become more complicated and I appreciate how that can turn many people away from it, it has also become much more flexible and useful across a wider range of environments. It is now possible to get better sound with RoomFit in cases where before this was not possible.

At the same time RoomFit hasn't lost any of the original functionality so you can still get the same correction (and the same sound) you would get at the beginning.

Note that any kind of room correction has a chance of making the sound worse (sometimes much worse) if not applied optimally. But this is exactly why more flexibility was needed in RoomFit - even at the cost of making it more complicated.

A longer term solution should of course be to make RoomFit easier to use for most people, while retaining configuration flexibility for advanced users. 'Simple' and 'advanced' modes, basically.

And as @hgo58 said, you can always disable it if you don't want to use it. :)

Also, there is definitely an issue where under certain preconditions or maybe depending on the device the RoomFit profiles imported from previous EQ settings simply do not work. I observed this behaviour with my WiiM Amp Ultra and my WiiM Amp Pro. This could explain why some feel that the results became worse.

I have an open ticket on this and try to provide WiiM with all the data they might need to reproduce the issue.

As a workaround, making any tiny manual modification and saving the RoomFit profile made each of them work in my case.

There are so many differently produced releases and genres from different decades... I have two different stereo pairs of floorstanding speakers connected to my amplifier. A couple for rather “thinner” and a couple for rather “fatter” productions. I do very well with that!

I think if I had to deal with RoomFit I would never get to enjoy music again 😂
