That was fixed. Are you suggesting it might have been unfixed again?

In other cases, if a pregain is heavily engaged, the DRC may be more strongly present, etc.
You need to check all settings that could affect the levels and impact the DRC, etc.

I'm currently using the usb output into an smsl p0100 pro and then into my dac on coax. does this have anything to do with the issues? it was working fine prior to the past 1 or 2 updates.

(The first known case was a strong DRC engaged at -1dB in fixed mode...while it should only be present in unfixed mode...a "forgotten"...)

What are you saying? Are you saying that fixed max volume is -1dB down?

No... at that time (10/22), there was a strong dynamic compressor that was engaged at -1dB... to avoid digital clipping with EQ, PEQ, etc. modes. It was also set to fixed mid, which was silly (as a reminder, there's still a more discreet one).

"No bit perfect" ;-))
(had as collateral victim the rme tests of bitperfect which passed by...announced "a bitperfect" despite this presence... which was not so relevant)

At that time? Is that the method they still use to prevent clipping? I wasn't aware of any change in that respect.

I'm still chasing down the sound degradation issue. As part this I was doing an a/b test with "monk's dream" by thelonius monk which has very good staging. in comparing the cd version going into my dac optically vs streaming on the ultra via amazon and going to my dac via usb to coax i noticed that the channels are switched (in addition to streaming not sounding as good). what's up with that???? neither path has right and left connections. the amazon stream does not note that it has been remastered.

Please report it to the team. I believe there has been an issue with the left and right channels being swapped on Optical before.

If you play the same track on the left speaker only, do you hear a completely different sound on the CD and on Amazon music?

You can also search for the track "Stereo Check" on Amazon music and play it.

e.g. When I play this back on my Ultra, the left and right channels are outputting fine and I am not experiencing any issues.
