I don’t think you will get it to work but ….Thanks for the replies and pointers. I am not sure what people mean by communicate with lms and Chromebook and Linux. It's just odd because everything is happening on my end except no volume. As others have had issues with upnp plugins and volume, what are the default settings to know what that volume should be sufficient when using the web gui of lms?
Regular skin. The volume is all the way up but I know there have been issues elsewhere with the upnp plug in enabled vs turning it off since wiim integrated squeezelite into wiim in the last month or so.I don’t think you will get it to work but ….
Start by putting at least one track onto the Chromebook and point LMS at the folder it is in and scan
Attempt to play that track with the volume in LMS set at a very low level and when you see the track counter moving then gradually increase the volume slider.
Which skin are you using? Default or have you installed Material plugin? The volume slider is on both but in different places.
Interesting. So the internet streams are actually coming thru the controlling device? For some reason I thought the controlling device just tells the wiim what stream to grab from the router whereas a file from the PC is differentI’m saying local file because if that doesn’t work Radio Paradise never will but there is a potential that you might get a local file to work but RP doesn’t.
Internet streams can be set to play direct (on the player itself) or Proxied (via the server) but this isn’t worth tinkering with if a local file doesn’t work.
Local file playback is the most basic mode.
The file should be a FLAC as that is the most common format.
Nope.Interesting. So the internet streams are actually coming thru the controlling device?
It does, through the router, and from the internet (cloud servers). For some reason I thought the controlling device just tells the wiim what stream to grab from the router
In the case of LMS here, surely the stream comes from the cloud to the LMS server and then to its client I.e. the WiiM Squeezelite client? If you turn off the LMS server, the stream will die.Nope.

I've given up. Would be nice if this could work but the wiim home app does 95 percent of what LMS would do. Unless wiim somehow adds lms to the app proper with an interface that lets it handle getting the stream from the server on your PC to the wiim machine, I can't get it to work. It doesn't seem to recognize my wiim as a upnp device. It can only see it and control it to the point of turning off what is already playing from the wiim home app if I have the Chromecast plug in enabled. But it won't play the selected music on the lms web gui. I have not. For what's it's worth you can stream almost any audio to the wiim from the Chromebook as soon also doubles as a Chromecast and can do that up to 96k. It just can't get sound from the wiim GUI.I think @d6jg would strongly disagree with that
There is a deprecated interface to LMS that allows it to be seen as UPNP, media server but it hasn't been supported for over ten years I believe..
Have you tried running some other native media server on your Chromebook (if such exists) ?

I obviously don't know what I am totally talking about here, but it would be nice if wiim had an lms button or what have you on it's phone app to let you log into your my squeezebox there the same as you can for the other services it's built into the app but maybe easier said than done
Super dumb question when you say client you mean in the back end as a way to connect it or an actual interface? I still think I just have an incorrect setting on my lms GUI interface thru the Firefox browser but no clue what it should be or currently is.That MediaServer app might allow that...
Generally a bad idea I'd say given it would take a lot of development and stands on its head what many LMS users do. Also, it's a bit redundant as WiiM have their squeezelite client - it's just that your LMS platform doesn't seem to support it.
The lms software is installed on my Chromebook using Linux. You have introduced so many variables that it's impossible to know just what your setup is!
On which device have you actually installed the LMS software? (You just introduced a mention of my squeezebox - that is not a LMS server but an online route to access media streams.)
And that is the problem. No one has reported that it works consistently enough to make it a viable option particulalry if you are a complete newbie to LMS.The lms software is installed on my Chromebook using Linux.
Mike.Nope.
