Hi all,

Fully aware that I’m going to have to tweak the settings but based on my below speakers

What Subwoofer settings should I start with?

I’m using a NAD C268 power amp..

Thanks

James

Always a good idea to just start with the default settings. They are the default for a reason. :)

So, leave the crossover frequency at 80 Hz. Use the LFE input on the Gravis I (the crossover know has no effect on the LFE input). Set LFE level to roughly 50%. From this point there is now way around trying it out for yourself.
  • If the sub is too loud, decrease the level within the WiiM Home App (much better and more convenient than changing it on the sub).
  • Try the phase switch in both settings, 0° and 180°. Whatever results in louder bass is right. Re-adjust level if necessary.
  • If the distance between your main listening position and your speakers is the same as the distance to your sub you might not have to adjust the output latency. If your sub is further away from you than your speakers, open the "Syncing Subwoofer & Speakers" menu and increase the Main Speaker Output Latency. You can roughly add 1 ms for every 34 cm (~12") difference in distance. Don't hesitate to try a little more. If you don't have measuring equipment, the simple rule is that louder bass is better. Re-adjust the level if necessary.
  • Perform WiiM Room Correction. This will attempt to iron out any remaining roughness in the frequency response, as far as possible.
Should you decide to try a lower crossover frequency later on (higher values probably won't make any sense in this setup) the sound might benefit from performing these steps again. Disable Room Correction prior to doing so. You will have to run it again with the new sub settings anyway.

Enjoy. :)

Hi, so when you say ‘leave the crossover frequency at 80 Hz’ .. you mean in the app?

Hi, so when you say ‘leave the crossover frequency at 80 Hz’ .. you mean in the app?
Exactly. You don't need the low pass crossover built into the subwoofer. Your WiiM Ultra implements this crossover, but in a better, digital way.

When you use the .1/LFE input, the crossover dial of.your sub is bypassed, so it "knows" that the feeding device will perform the crossover function.

Unfortunately, the developers of the Gravis I decided to implement a fix low pass filter at 120 Hz, that cannot be bypassed. The WiiM Ultra provides a clean and symmetrical high pass and low pass filter to the mains and the sub. The subwoofer's fixed low pass filter would disturb that symmetry if you set the crossover frequency much higher than 80 Hz.

I have the same nad c286 with WiiM ultra. I also struggle with the subwoofer. I have a 2.1 setup. 2 Dali fazon sat 1 speakers and 1 dali e9f subwoofer. What should I setup in the menu of the ultra. What is a good crossover. Now I have 90hz. Because the low of the speakers is 86 hz is that correct

That’s what I thought and then I see others say Yes :)
Sorry, I misread your post.

If you have a sub then the general recommendation is to run RC with the sub enabled and the RC setting "Subwoofer Calibration" enabled!

These are the default values.

Edit: Don't get trapped by old threads dealing with this topic (and yes, 2 months actually means "old threads" in this context).

And sorry one more question..

Should the Subwoofer Bypass mode be enabled?
No. Turns out I simply responded to the wrong post. :D

Under very special circumstances Subwoofer Bypass Mode might give better results, indeed. But generally you should have it disabled. The digital filter in the WiiM is clearly superior to the filters found in most subwoofers.

Thank you. You have been a great help and appreciate your time! All sorted now ..

Try to run rc at narrow range at 20 to 500. If you don’t find sound good move up to 20 to 1000 and so on instead doing it in large range which I think 10 band is not enough to 20k
