This time Wiim really let me down

Seems like a lot to ask for when the Ultra sells for just $329.
You can say the same about many of the other features in the WiiM.

Nobody forces WiiM to update the current VU meter but we are some that would like to have one that is actually useful.

since in the digital domain (including the ADC of the analog inputs) I maintain, as much as it could be found in Wiim Home for other Wiim machines, that the interest is to have a persistent "over" mark of digital saturation... it is useful for managing the levels... the rest will not help you much...
peak....

We could get both ;)

We don't all use the WiiM in the same way.

Do you mean the many other features that are there and functioning correctly on the Ultra? If so those features are there and one doesn't need to contact WiiM support to request that they be added or changed.

Useful for what? To see if the music you are playing is peaking? If it is I'd think one could tell just by listening to the music playing. I understand that you and others are interested in using the VU meter graphics. That's understandable but seems like it would be waaaaaay down the list of items of things for WiiM support to do IMO.

I honestly have no interest in the VU meter graphics. I just keep the album art of the current album playing. The Ultra’s display is not large enough to see from 6’ or further. I don’t see how one can expect WiiM to devote resources to have multiple VU meter graphic options and then have them function with different settings. Seems like a lot to ask for when the Ultra sells for just $329.
Maybe because they promised it repeatedly?
In any case, the crux of the matter was not what I asked, but their totally inconsistent answer.
For your information the Topping D70 Pro Sabre has a VuMeter with the possibility of being attenuated and it works perfectly ;)

what use?
I use the current VU meter mostly to set analog output from my cassette tape recorder to max value that do not clip. This do variates from tape to tape.
For now I put WiiM Ultra volume to max with output to headphones (that are not connected), adjust the variable tape output and then change back to normal.

Having a VU meter showing input in dBFS would help me here.

And then it looks nicer than the static icon when not streaming but playing from inputs. ;)

It's not a vumeter but a test signal...historically a 300hz etc...standart methode... ;-) and vumetre in tape recorder......
(This is done in a few clicks...and is injected directly into your wiim....all the more so the source is digital...)

ps my question at maurizio and his dac .. ;-)

Hey all! I'll check in with the support folks to make sure they've got the latest info. Last I heard the team is working on more VU Meters, along with many other things. I'll make sure it's on their list.

Out of curiosity, if you could pick a favorite design or meter, what would it look like?

Promised? Was that a promise to add the feature as you asked or to look into it?

In all honesty I have no interest in the Topping D70 or the fact that it has a "VuMeter". It's a feature of no value to me as what purpose would it serve other than being a visual aesthetic.

Why so aggressive against a single feature. There are many other current and requested features that not everyone agree on. Should we not just let WiiM Team decide?

Wrong type of scale for digital signals.
Shall be in dBFS and maybe with an "over" indicator.

Even better as horizontal bars but don't look as nice.
Yet there are plenty of this type of pro plugins for DAWs available. They have a use in production, but are mostly just for visual appeal in the playback chain. Some old farts like me enjoy them.

Not aggressive at all. The fact that I have an opinion opposite of yours does not make it aggressive. If the WiiM team comes through with the VU meter graphics that some here desire then that's great. Still doesn't change the fact that it's a feature that I'll never use or want. I think you're taking my opinions a bit personal and they are not meant to be.

what use?
No special use. One reason is that it is the only screen I can see well from 4.5 meters away (listening point). The covers are almost invisible. Another reason is that I like the aesthetics.
In the 70s/80s I had an integrated (NAD) with two beautiful medium-sized blue VuMeters and a Pre Thecnics with two huge (McIntosh type) cream-colored VuMeters. How did I use them? In no way they were simply beautiful to look at. ;) 😊

"Promised? Was that a promise to add the feature as you asked or to look into it?"
Perhaps by using “promised,” I used the wrong word. More than a promise it was a given that they would soon add new Meters by following up on numerous user requests for this addition.
If you search and read the various Community posts about Meters, you will see that WiiM has always responded to the numerous requests for new ones.
"We are studying new meters and will soon make them available. Stay tuned".
It seems to me that responses of this type are not so much a promise, but a fact that they were working to implement them in a fairly rapid time frame.

I can understand that you are not interested and I respect your opinion, but we are not all the same and for every 10 users who are not interested there are 10 who are interested.
For example, things like Smart Presets, Grouping devices and things like that are of no interest at all for me. I use WiiMs as pure streamers connected to my HiFi system so no Multi Rooms etc.
The only extra function that I'm interested in is ARC.
However, this does not mean that I give a thumbs down to the fact that they have implemented functions that concern the topics I described above. I am happy for the users who use them. Sic et simpliciter
