That’s great. In my experience I’m always prompted to download and install. At no point has my device ever auto updated a firmware release without me saying yes. So if auto update is “normal” behavior, then I don’t like it. I don’t want to argue over everyone’s experiences. They are clearly different.

I think you would be able to raise a ticket with wiim and ask to be whitelisted from future updates.

He isn't saying he doesn't want updates just that updating automatically at a random time when you might unplug the device halfway through is a bad idea.

Most devices have a flashing indicator light when there's a firmware update and I'm certain that the WiiM devices do too.

My smart power switch can't see that It turns the power off every night to all AV equipment. So I could be unlucky that an automatic update was happening at the same time. It should never happen.

How can you live with the risk?

Firmware updates occur between 2AM and 5AM local time, so make sure your auto-off respects the time boundaries. I guess that yours will update either when you turn the gear on or never

It does actually update after asking me, when I open the WHA.

Don't mix up two different topics.

If you don't like this behaviour, that's absolutely legit. But please don't question the experience of many other users (including my own) just because you didn't observe it before.

This is not a first, it definitely did happen before. And this is a thread for everyone to discuss the WiiM Amp firmware 5.0.714744.

The recent (last few days) updates for my Amp and Amp Pro, the Home app did indeed ask me, and didn't update until I said yes.

Perhaps the update happens automatically depending on how long it is between when the device/app notices the update is available, and when you next run the app. If that's more than a certain time, then the update happens automatically, perhaps? But if you start the app regularly, then you always see the prompt, perhaps.

That hasn’t been my experience at all with my amp. Why argue with me? This is where the ignore button would come handy. Be more productive.
