Usually with a female vocal or instrument at a narrow and specific frequency, I hear what sounds like a the snare from a drum / metal fast rattle. I also hear it when doing a RoomFit. Does not occur when using CD transport or turntable, just the ProPlus

Can be (digital) clipping but unable to say without more info or an example. What do you mean "when doing a RoomFit". Roomfit plays a sweep..

First, I would listen to the source file again through headphones and check whether this noise is also audible. Alternatively, I would view the source file on a PC using an audio editor. If it is a poor RIP, this should be visible/audible.
This is to rule out hardware errors and errors in the audio chain.

Hi I have question to OP whether problem is solved coz I think is have similar case although in different configuration.

While using Wiim Pro with external DAC and headphones sometimes and with different frequency I think I can hear in left cup something like digital/metal glow/distortion for a sec. Recently it is not happening but previously it did from time to time.

I use cheap headphones, HE400se which are rather bright bo this sound can be additionally emphasised and it might me due to headphones but i tired to tests them which tracks I well know so I don’t think they are damaged.

Wiim Pro i connected by optical and coax, I think I can hear it more on coax.

I thought I have just to big imagination and looking for not existing problems but reading for post it looks very similar to my case.

Cheers,

This could be digital clipping.

Are you using EQ and/or RoomFit with positive gain? It could also be specific to the recording containing inter sample clipping. If the DAC doesn't handle inter sample clipping on its own, you could give up the (overrated) bit perfect and set a volume limit of 95 % in the WiiM Pro.

Yes, I thought so. I just for try I applied eq for headphones via wiim’s eq but as there is no pre amp setting I used pre gain and lower it according to eq settings setup (I think it was from AutoEq). I used it to prevent clipping but this phenomena still happened. This was all with my Fidelio X2HR.

But then I switched to Hifman’s, turned off eq, switch to fixed volume and reduced max volume to 90%. And I think - but it might be placebo - that it helped - I can’t hear it recently or it occurs less often but I am a bit paranoid trying to catch it instead of just enjoying music. But I have very sensitive eras - I can hear all imperfections right away which is rather curse then blessing.

Cheers,
