Variable and fixed output?

I see that you can set the output volume on an Ultra per source (I think). What I was wondering is if you can set whether the output could be set variable or fixed by source. I am guessing some here would suggest just setting the volume all the way up, but I want a setting to lock out changing it on the WiiM as would be that "fixed" setting

Example, if I want to play from WiFi or other streaming service, I would want variable output controlled by the WiiM Ultra. When I play from my piCorePlayer touchscreen I would like the Wiim Ultra to be 100% (fixed) and I would control the volume within the pCP system (screen, pCP IR remote, or Material Skin from a tablet or phone).

Is that possible?

Thanks!

Material skin controls the WiiM volume or do I misunderstand what you want to do.

Yeah, so you’d not have the Ultra at 100% fixed, just leave it variable and pCp controls the volume. I think you’d only be asking for problems if you fixed the ultra volume and then Lyrion tried to change it.

You can use a Wiim to play from multiple inputs.

When I play from the Wiim's internal streaming services, I would like to use the WiiM volume control.
When I play from the WiiM's optical input (my pCP player) I would like the WiiM at fixed (100%) volume and control the pCP within the pCP world.

I hope that's clearer?

Thanks

Ah OK. Why not just use Squeezelite on the Ultra?

I have 3 really NICE 13 inch jivelite-vis touchscreens with great meters, spectrum displays and album art that can be viewed from across the room. I added a custom IR remote (with volume control among other controls) too. Before adding the Ultra, I setup a 12V trigger to turn on my amp and controlled the volume from the pCPlayer, remote, or Material Skin).

I bought the Ultras to get a better 12v trigger, a DSP and DAC. I like the graphic EQ, Sub output (a big deal for me) and RoomFix application. It already made a big difference! Unless you are really into this, I find the graphic EQ is easier then the PEQ. The Ultra has both! The Ultra has been a great addition for me.

Of course there are tons of other features and someday I might add some other sources.

Does this help describe what I want and why?

Thanks!

You still haven’t said why you’re not using the Squeezelite client in the Ultra and playing wirelessly to that player without the need for an optical cable from your pCp into the Ultra. Simply select the Ultra from the list of players in the Material skin as shown below and leave its volume as variable so it can be controlled either via pCp or the WiiM app - their volume is synced.

Edit: ignore the fact that I do have my Ultra set at fixed volume - I use the volume control of the amp it’s connected to, not via pCp nor the WiiM app.

You can still use your 13 inch touchscreen if you use it to control the WiiM Squeezelite.

I say this with the best intent, but I feel @Hollywood can’t see the wood for the trees and is perhaps over complicating matters with connecting cables when the Ultra can be treated like any other Squeezelite/pCp player on their network…

I'll be the 1st to admit I sometimes over complicate things. At my age it is getting harder to visualize things. I know how I could "synchronize" 2 squeezelite players. Is that what you are talking about. How were you suggesting I control the WiiM with the pCP touchscreen? It sound good, but I can't visualize it (yet)

Thanks

You’d control the ultra like any other Squeezelite player without having to physically connect it to your pCp. When you open the player list on material skin, does your ultra show as per my earlier screenshot?

I am assuming you can select the Ultra as the controlled player in Jivelite in the same way you can control any player from a Radio or a Touch. No need to synchronise players.

It does as long as I set the WiiM to use Squeezelite. In my case I see, both the "WiiM Ultra-Living_Room" and my "pCP-Living_Room" as players. If I choose the WiiM as the player, how would I get the pCP screen to also let me choose music or change volume and display the meters?
