WiiM Amp Ultra Users Experience

I want to use the Wiim amp ultra as a music alarm clock. Does the Wiim amp ultra support Tunein on its own, without connecting to a phone with the app? Of course the Wiim amp ultra will be connected to the LAN.
It does. It just needs an Ethernet or Wi-Fi connection. You can even use any of the presets you can store with your alarms and a preset could even link to a Spotify playlist. Local media servers are supported, too. You're going to see lots and lots of options.

Yes, TuneIn is one of the supported services built into the WiiM Home app.

That's exactly what I didn't ask, I needed to know if it works independently and without the connected application. Of course after the initial setup using the application. But I was already answered above.
But anyway, thanks for your willingness.

In that case your question was ambiguous as I am sure many people interpreted "the app" as meaning the TuneIn app 🙂

The WiiM Home App on the phone is just a controller to set it up. When playing you don't need the App. Whatever you defined in your alarm (and any other playing) is done by the WiiM device, not any App.

Bingooo!!! So this is the completely clear and precise answer I needed!!!
I apologize to everyone, I use Google translator.
Thank you

The latest issue of the German Audio Magazine "Audio Test" (3/2026) has a review of the Amp Ultra in it.

Final Verdict: Reference Class 95%

The review is really well written and I can fully agree with everything they said. (y)
But to make the story complete: This reference and 95% is valid for the Entry Level devices. Nevertheless, a nice piece.

It is the entry level device IMO so no surprise. Its score probably makes it a better choice than many more expensive devices.

And, please, do not get me wrong! I bought the AU myself and it does what it was supposed to do. Alone the ranking in the Entry Level, in front of many more expensive devices is great! Just wanted to relativize this "Reference".

Looks like the level is based on the price? That is not a valid way of defining the quality of an audio product. So I would not put much into this reference list, except if you look at the price only.

@hgo58
Of course, I could deliver such lists from many magazines, websites, reviewers aso with totally different results. Just wanted to pont out: The AU isn't reference class all-over. It is well positioned in the entry level category. Not more, not less.

I’m in the process of getting a new second system for my new office / mancave. Previously was using my PC into a SMSL SU-1 DAC into a SMSL SA300 Amp into Q Acoustics 2010i Speakers.

Have relocated to Wroclaw, Poland and the previous system was sold on prior to the move, hence the need for a new system.

Been looking at the various options from Echo upwards, all in one streamers and so on.

Initially was going to get a Wiim Sound with a view to pairing it with the Wiim Sound Lite. But moved on from that and have settled on getting the Wiim Amp Ultra. I like the look of it plus it does get some good reviews. It has enough tech for me for what I need.

My music choice in Jazz from Qobuz and Jazz24 Radio and, as it can handle these, that is fine for me.

It will be located on a Kallax unit in one of the cubes. and some small bookshelf speakers will be used in two of the other cubes. I have looked at a number of suitable speakers and have settled on the Dali Kupids. These will fit in the space nicely, plus have a different look to a square edged rectangular black box.

Looking forward to setting this up, which should be around July time once the finishing company has worked their magic. Also looking forward to setting up my main system which is still in storage

I'm not going to break out my 40yo highschool Deutsche to read the classification system used here, but it reads that Reference Class is the pinnacle regardless of cost. And that Audio Test has only found 5 devices which perform/rate better than the WAU.
