I have had a Wiim Pro for almost 2 years and it always plays 16-bit/44.1kHz.
Is the output configured correctly? Yes. Audio settings are set to 24-bit/192kHz.
Did I test the audio settings? Yes, when I test, I see my outboard DAC display 48kHz/4X.
WiFi Streaming is set to Max.

So, I know my WiiM and DAC are capable of 24-bit, however, when I play a song from Tidal that says it is playing Max, but WiiM Home app always says 256 kbps 16-bit/44.1kHz. And my DAC always displays 16-bit as well.

I need help figuring out why this is happening.

The 256kbps would suggest the streaming quality is set very low. Are you using the same WiFi network on your phone or perhaps using cell/mobile data instead? I’m presuming you’re using the Tidal app on your phone?

@SoaringBear, there might be different things coming together. For how long are you using Tidal? On what plan have you been prior to the change earlier this year?

It might be required to log out of your Tidal account and log back in again.

We still don't know how you are using Tidal on your phone. You could e.g. be using the Tidal app or Tidal integrated as a music service into the WiiM Home app. Especially in the latter case make sure to go into your account settings and check that the correct new plan is selected.

No matter what, do the log out/log in thing!

WiiM Pro and I use same WiFi network. Wiim app says signal is “Very Good”. I am not using AirPlay. I am using Tidal Connect on mobile.

I have all the WiiM Pro settings set to higher quality.

I had a Premium account or whatever they called it before they made that standard. I can get higher transfer rates from Tidal app on MacBook.

What would you like me to try or screenshot?

What happens when you play Tidal on the WiiM app? Is it the same 256kbps?

(Sorry, I have never used Tidal so I can't suggest a solution, but it might help you find where the cause is.)

Maybe same issue as in thread "Tidal resolution issue on WHA via WiFi"?

- Account settings for Tidal in WHA needs to be set to "MAX"
- Settings on Tidal-App (which is used on Phone/Tablet for Connect) needs to be set to "MAX" (quality in WLAN), too

If I use WiiM Pro amp, then I get higher resolution. That is good.. Thanks

If I use Tidal connect mobile it says MAX, but I get 16-bit. I am not clear what WHA is. Is it WiiM Home App?

Yes WHA is the short form for WiiM Home App 🙂

- open WHA
- go to BROWSE (bottom line)
- click on the arrow to the right of the Tidal logo
- use ACCOUNT below, click on the arrow to the right
- chose QUALITY, click on the arrow to the right and select MAX

in the original Tidal app on your phone, go to the HOME page, click on the gear wheel at the top right, select AUDIO & PLAYBACK. Under QUALITY IN WLAN select MAX

Can you post a screenshot of the 'Now Playing' screen in the wiim app?
A screenshot of the Now Playing screen in the WiiM app, and a screenshot of the Tidal app target speaker screen are needed, as well as the phone o/s - I’m coming round to thinking airplay might be being used and not Tidal Connect.
