WiiM Ultra Firmware v5.2.639135 - Dec 19, 2024

Quick test, same results as in October, works as expected. (This is using bubbleupnp to CC to the Ultra.)

You see, a few of us (including you and me are on firmware 5.2.639152 with Cast firmware 1.56.x.

But everybody else including @renpar61 is on firmware 5.2.639135 with Cast firmware 1.68.x, wich definitely is Google Cast for Audio 2.0.

That's why I told him to send feedback to WiiM. There's no way of getting a firmware with Cast 1.56.x unless WiiM whitelist your device for it.
Has this whitelisted version been kept in step with the public firmware version rather than being static like they normally are?

Judging purely by the firmware version number they seem to be. The version with 1.56 is higher than the official firmware.
So why not make it the official version 🤔

If I remember correctly the frequency of updates has been slightly lower, but finally it always kept up with the official firmware feature set, yes.

The last three digits are probably just an automated counter created by the build tool. If so, then a higher number in theory just indicates a later build time, not necessarily which software components made it into the build. In practice I agree that the Cast 1.56.x firmware seems to contain all the other goodies of the lower numbered official build.

My guess is that Google is really pushing towards GC4A 2.0 and support for the old "Chromecast built-in" line will end at some point. OTOH it's strange how Google doesn't seem to care much about removing the restrictions and problems that come with GC4A 2.0 ...

That's interesting, you're on the latest official build with Cast firmware 1.68.x but you can Chromecast Hi-Res audio?

What's different in your setup compared to those having issues? That'd be certainly worth a separate thread. :D

Correct; ultra fw version as per this thread's title (just came off the smart presets beta a couple of days ago) and 1.68xxx, and 192khz over CC works flawlessly.
Track seek / skip / pause / resume all work quickly and with no issues at all, playing tracks from my nas.

I'll try Tidal from bubble over CC (not proxied) tomorrow - when I do use bubble for Tidal it's usually upnp.

Can you try the Qobuz app? I’ll have a go with Bubbleupnp as well.

Disastrous results for me on my Ultra with trying to Chromecast a local 24/192 FLAC file from BubbleUPNP - immediate distortion/white noise. Another ticket submitted :(

Edit: same file sent to WiiM Pro at 24/192 with no issues. Also no problem sending file to Ultra as UPNP endpoint from Bubbleupnp.

Where do I check Cast version on my WiiM Home APP (WiiM Ultra)?
