WiiM Ultra Firmware v5.2.639135 - Dec 19, 2024

Is it still restricted to 24/48?

Finally got a minute to test this. Qobuz casts up to 24/96 on this latest Ultra FW. Had to use the Qobuz MacOS app to cast and compared that to the same track on Apple Music sent via AirPlay 1 and that sounded much better with Qobuz sounding veiled/etched. I was a Qobuz subscriber (still have an account for another 6 months) but I long realized Apple is better. Why? Do not know, perhaps better masters.

I'm confused._ just got the Ultra with latest firmware (to replace a Pro). Qobuz chromecast is broken for me, while it worked great on the pro casting 24/96 flawlessly. With the ultra it only does CD quality and has a lot of stuttering and interruptions.
Also no airplay for Apple Music on the Ultra.
Am I missing something?

There have been issues with ChromeCast on the Ultra - best dropping a line to WiiM via the more/feedback section in the WiiM app to see if they can suggest a fix. Until they do, you may have to access Qobuz via the WiiM Home app, or wait a little while till Qobuz Connect (which is currently in beta) becomes available.
It's well known that the Ultra doesn't support Airplay, so for Apple Music bluetooth is your only option

My post, that you quoted, confirmed that Qobuz can be sent via Chromecast to Ultra up to 24bit/96kHz, assuming you have the FW referred on this thread.

It is well known that Ultra does not support AirPlay. There are workarounds with added equipment/apps.

I just tried casting Qobuz from my iPad to my Ultra with the latest firmware as it’s as flaky as a millefeuille ;) It stutters badly when starting playback, reverts to CD quality on the Qobuz screen and shows 24/48 on my Linn. I’ve submitted a ticket to see if WiiM can see what I’m doing wrong, or whether it needs further “tuning”…

I have the FW referred on this thread and Chromecast doesn't work for me the way you describe. Only CD quality.
Also, I know the Ultra doesn't support AirPlay, you mentioned you compared the same track on Apple Music, that's why I was confused.
If you compared using other equipment it's not really a fair comparison, right?

Exactly what I'm experiencing.

Use the feedback feature integrated into the WiiM Home app and explain that "Google Cast for Audio (GC4A) 2.0" does not work for your use case. Also mention the "stuttering" and "bandwidth limitation".

Well… that is what I was experiencing until this latest fw. I note that I have also power cycled the unit. Perhaps that cleaned up issues in the processor stack.

I do believe what you see. I saw that too. Please try a power cycle or we continue to have a problem.

It’s NOT Google Cast 2.0. This latest fw has Chromecast 1.56.xxx

The latest official firmware is still v5.2.639135 and I doubt it has Chromecast 1.56.

Look at your Ultra's firmware version ...

My Ultra is power cycled daily - I turn it off with most of my gear overnight.

Here’s my firmware/cast version:

Looks like there are a few variants in the wild :(

Ditto.

System firmware version: 5.2.639135
Cast firmware: 1.68.cast_20240607_1430_RC10.641358537

Is it problematic for you too I.e. unstable playback, restricted to CD quality?
I'll have to check again.
I recall CC being dire when the ultra first came out, but I recall I did some basic testing recently-ish where I was getting up to 192 via CC and all my issues with songs just stopping after 20 secs etc. were all resolved.
I almost never use CC (normally tidal connect or my nas via upnp with bubble) but I'll give it a whirl.
Will have to wait a little while as I moved the ultra into the main lounge last night (was home alone!), and I'm being forced to watch tv atm. :ROFLMAO:

You see, a few of us (including you and me are on firmware 5.2.639152 with Cast firmware 1.56.x.

But everybody else including @renpar61 is on firmware 5.2.639135 with Cast firmware 1.68.x, wich definitely is Google Cast for Audio 2.0.

That's why I told him to send feedback to WiiM. There's no way of getting a firmware with Cast 1.56.x unless WiiM whitelist your device for it.
