I just got a reply from @WiiM Support to my ticket. They were really quick this time and I thank them. This is the reply :
"
Hi Maurizio
I have pushed the latest OTA firmware version 5.2.711448 to your WiiM Ultra. Could you kindly check if the VM meter is functioning properly?"
I checked and now the Meter works and behaves appropriately. Changing the option the needle has a different behavior. 🤗
The curious thing is that they forced in my Ultra the same version that I already had, since I had the update (5.2.711448). Well, when my Ultra was updated the meter did not work and I opened the ticket. They forced in my Ultra the same version and now it works. I can't explain it.🤔 Maybe something went wrong during the first update.
In any case, what matters is that it works now.(y)
Thanks @WiiM Support

May be unrelated to this FW, but shortly after updating Ultra, I received a warning message that there was something issue with the Amp remote. (Amp is linked to Ultra.)

However, looking at the device settings on the Amp, the remote was paired correctly and the battery level was fine. Remote operation also worked correctly.

Eventually, after reinserting the batteries in the remote and re-pairing it, the warning disappeared.

That is all I have to report.
I had the same experience after a recent Ultra update (not sure which one). Changed the batteries and no problem since. I will check again after this current update comes through to my device.

What did I do wrong to end up last in line?
;)
As for the «VU» meter I just can’t get around the weirdness of seeing a digital input signal peaking at +10 dB. @WiiM Team Please get this right, give us stereo, and use logarithmic scaling.
And now the input reading ignore pre-gain and EQ :( . So not of much help in avoiding clipping.

That was not the case with last version.

I’m not seeing the new firmware, on v5.2.709956 and no update showing. I’m in the uk, is the release being staggered or is the a way to force the update?

The VU meter is still completely wrong. Both in scale and needle position.

The needle is all the way to the right!!

At max volume (all bits set) it shall be at 0 dBFS. And even if WiiM is insisting of using power amplifier level of dB, it shall never go beyond the defined scale.

Hi hgo58,

Could you please submit a support ticket so we can assist you further?

Also, let us know which option you selected—original signal or after digital volume—and whether you’ve used EQ or pre-gain.

Thank you for your patience as we work on resolving this issue!

You say this but major changes are coming to Apple's ecosystem, the EU is forcing them to open up to other standards.

Whether this will affect WiiM's ability to offer AirPlay on their Linux based devices or not is yet to be seen, but it's likely Apple products will soon natively start supporting other streaming options which are already working well on WiiM.
Could we see -- dare I say it? -- Apple Connect? Be still my heart!

Please see ticket#527991 raised a week ago as response to beta version.

It's output volume (after digital volume) and with a bit of EQ and pre-gain.

The measures shall of cause be independent on source of signal and any gain. It must be purely calculated from the actually signal volume value.

dBFS = 20*log10(volume value/volume value max)

Never exceeding 0 dBFS where the signal will be clipping.

With volume control it shall never exceed the volume specified. So with volume at 50% the maximum shown value shall not be above -6 dBFS and at 10% it's -20 dBFS.

Yes, you are right, strictly speaking wen cannot say what's going to happen in the future. But this paragraph ...

... describes pretty much the opposite of AirPlay support in the Ultra. It's about Apple opening its devices to support interfaces other than AirPlay.

Technically the Ultra could easily support AirPlay, just like the Amp, the Pro Plus,.the Pro and the Mini. It's all a matter licensing. And.I don't see any EU regulation forcing Apple to license their proprietor technology to everyone (not even in the EU).
Manually added AirPlay to my ultra. Works great.

This release don't include the fix for the HDMI CEC Power Control bug that many of us has been waiting for

The bug was fixed in a beta test version 2 months ago but is still not implemented in the main version.

Basically the issue is that when HDMI CEC Power Control is off and the TV connected on HDMI is turned on, the TV still changes to external speakers because it can "see" the WiiM Ultra. This is happening also with the Ultra in standby and independent on what input is selected on the Ultra.
