Release date:

6 / 6 / 2025

What's New:

  3. TIDAL Playback Enhancement: Improved playback stability and smoother performance for TIDAL and TIDAL Connect.

So what is up with that volume being randomly changed? It started with the May 15th update, I reported it in that thread and it is still happening on the latest FW.
Even when the device is in standby, the volume randomly fluctuates between 91-100, I randomly fire up the WiiM App and it is changing all the time on its own. I even removed batteries from the remote to confirm it is NOT the remote acting up.
Is it acknowledged as a bug? Will it be fixed? Anyone else getting this? It is pretty annoying.

What have WiiM said in response to your ticket?

No ticket created yet. I first wanted to see if other users are also experiencing this, or if I am alone. Another user in that FW thread posted the same finding: https://forum.wiimhome.com/threads/wiim-ultra-firmware-v5-2-717053-may-15-2025.7178/post-128320

Although now I see he probably tried to reset the device and has not posted back since, so maybe the reset fixes it and I will have to try it.
But it sucks if the FORCED FW update requires you the wipe clean your device.

It’s primarily by inspecting device logs on raised tickets that WiiM can resolve issues, and if more than one user raises a ticket, WiiM will have more evidence they can compare.

It’s unusual to have to do a factory reset to resolve an issue. I would normally advise users to first try a power cycle of their device - remove it completely from its power source, wait half a minute then reconnect it - as that often can clear any issues experienced post a firmware update.

Ok, so I take it no one else has these strange involuntary volume changes aftere the May 15th update? I also found out, that the mysterious "device randomly waking up from sleep and turning on the display" that also other people reported in that specific FW thread are most likely exactly when the volume change is happening. Because when the device is in sleep and I change the volume in the app, the device wakes up and the display is on just like when it is happening on its own.
So if no one else is having these issues I will need to try to power-cycle or reset it then.

Yes, I have the same problem as you with the volume changing by itself and I have already sent a ticket. I haven't received a reply yet. (I reported it along with other issues, so it's possible they missed it.)

My guess is that this looks like a bug in the WiiM app, but I'm still not sure what triggers it.

I'm currently setting the volume on all WiiM devices to 50% and seeing what changes after a few hours. Then I will send a ticket again.

You can send a ticket too.

The Android app’s widget currently monitors the phone’s volume buttons, which may be the cause of this issue. In the next update, we’ll modify the behavior so that the widget only listens for volume button presses when a WiiM device is actively playing.

Just for information, power-cycle did not help. Then I factory-reset the device. At first I got one more involuntary volume change so I thought at first even this did not solve it, but then it seemed to hold from there, not changing anymore. That was still before the recent android App update. Then the App was updated and it still seems to hold, for several days now. Even the random device wake from sleep, where the display would turn on (most likely happening on the random volume change), stopped.
So from my point of view, factory reset is the thing that needed to be done.

You did try removing the WiiM Ultra from mains power for a couple of minutes, first?

I'm glad a factory reset did solve your issues but it should really be the last resort.

Three times since the upddate my Ultra stops showing any art or Vu Meter even when I switch between them only a a reboot getting it going again. It plays music fine all along but the artwork or vu just stop working. I never saw this before the update.

t gets turned off at the end of each day anyway so the problem is more why has it occured than how do I solve it
If you mean you put the device into standby then I suggest a power cycle as described earlier.
why has it occured than how do I solve it
Sometimes after a firmware update the wiim may not function as expected, a power cycle usually corrects it. I am not an IT person but I think a power cycle clears the resident memory and allows a full restart of the system

how do I solve it
If the problem persists after a power cycle, go to more/3dot menu in the wiim home app and select feedback and raise a ticket after you see the problem arise. Your wiim device will then allow wiim to look at your logs and possibly help with the issue. When you get an email from wiim saying that they have received your request, reply to the email and you should get a response directly from wiim support
