WiiM Ultra Firmware v5.2.720535 - Jun 19, 2025

What's New:
  1. Smart DNS: Enables faster playback startup and smoother streaming.
  2. Time Sync: More robust NTP timing for music service login.
  3. Playback Screen Options: Added 3 new styles with large title display (requires upcoming app update).
  4. Playback Enhancements:
    • Faster startup for Amazon Music.
    • Reduced interruptions on HDMI ARC and Optical inputs.
  5. Screen Updates:
    • Displays full artwork for certain MP3s.
    • Shows album name on playback screen.
    • Fixed alias name display on VU Meter.
  6. USB Indexing: Now uses album artist metadata for better organization.
  7. System Optimization: Reduced CPU load during simultaneous Sub and USB output.

I do not use RC, EQ or any other DSP feature, and on the Ultra the screen is permanently off. WiiM started with basic streamers and that is what I use. The ongoing 'featuritis' has the potential to interfere with sound quality and be a major issue. I do not use digital signal processing because other components of the playback chain work well and the room has no issues that need digital EQ. Having tried those and seen those tried by other people, more often than not, the end result is worse. People hear a difference and decide that that difference is an improvement - and often it’s not. But… to each his own.

I do use the screen, but have never found the need to use any form of tone controls.

It would be great if wiim put a feature called pure direct like the feature found on many AV receiver that bypass display and dsp.

Actually it seems that you have 5.2.719248 and that is the 'current' version for most, soon to be replaced by the one announced on this thread. And the update process may take a few days. Some devices get it soon, others later.

And… for most people a new FW version does nothing. For me, over the last year, I might point to perhaps 2 FW updates that benefited the Ultra for me - USB digital out and Presets management. That is all.
