4.8.528649 firmware for Pro

If you’re new to LMS and squeezeboxes it’s super important to first go to the LMS Settings/Players/Audio page for each squeezebox player (that’s your WiiM now) to set fixed volume. That’s how it works in the LMS universe.
Yes, can set them to fixed 100% in that menu
I like leaving them on 100% setting in case I do have a particular case where the input is too high (fairly common with some loudness wars music) and I put the level down about 3 dB or so while still controlling volume from the analogue volume control
But that's just my peculiar way of doing things...LoL

If you’re using analog out from the WiiM it can be a different story if your output is running hot. Not a problem for those of us using external DACs exclusively.

No one should expect the WHA to be a squeezebox controller. Use the LMS web interface. IPeng, or the current state of art web interface with the Material skin. It’s easiest to save a browser view of the YourIP:9000/material address as a Home Screen app (assuming android has something similar to the iOS method). @d6jg - you wanna chime in… forget everything you know about the WiiM or WHA when using any squeezelite player. You need to set fixed volume in the LMS settings player by player.
Thanks! I just found the LMS volume setting that I wouldn't have found if you didn't say to set.

I assume my other 2 Pro's will be updated soon.

I already mentioned in another thread that I might consider a WiiM Amp for my patio setup when I see what other have to say about it. That would leave me with a Mini in the bathroom and an Audiocast brand in the garage that do not have Squeezebox support. Should I wait to see if the Mini is going to get Squeezebox firmware or replace it with a Pro?

If I do need another WiiM that has Squeezebox, should I get a Pro+ for my main system and use the existing in another area. My living room stereo has an external DAC, Schiit Modi+.

Thanks!

I wouldn’t wait as it involves removing features from the mini to make room for Squeezelite. I now view the Squeezelite feature like Roon, Ethernet, Chromecast etc - if you want any of these features, get a Pro.
Is this confirmed for sure? I’d hate to throw away my 3 mini’s only to find out they have implemented squeezelite in the mini.

If you choose to get a Plus, I would wait for the Rev. 2 stock to become available with the fix for the AK4493SEQ implementation. Is it a better DAC chip than the ESS9018 in your Modi+, yes it is. Is it something you will notice - depends on your system and ears. Schiit makes excellent products in any case. Then there is your budget, your significant other, and the issues with integrating components versus using separates (minimize breakage and obsolescence affecting both streamer and DAC). I’m a multibit DAC lover. I loved the Schiit Bifrost 2 so much, I bought two. They each run a set of mono Vidars with a Freya S. One into Maggie LRS, one into Maggie .7’s. I hear a difference, but that’s me. My wife also loves stereos so no tension (she also loves Porsches and Pinball machines - I’m truly blessed). Oh, and I was lucky enough as a kid to see The Who (with Keith Moon) from 5th row center. My ears ring at cocktail parties to this day - so there’s that to consider.😁

No, but as it involves removing features (amazon music multiroom was mentioned) to add Squeezelite, there would need to be a mechanism to allow a user to load the Squeezelite edition firmware in preference to the established firmware. No such mechanism currently exists, so that’s another item to put in the mix. And then you might get Roon users asking why the same can’t be done for Roon - say, let’s throw out Amazon Music entirely as Roon doesn’t support that to make way for it. Or any other non-hardware specific feature that the larger Pro/Plus models might have or get in the future.

While I agree it’s a pity the mini doesn’t have the capacity for Squeezelite, butchering existing firmware is in my mind a recipe for disaster, not to mention the overhead to WiiM in maintaining yet another firmware stream.

There’s another Amazon Prime day coming along in a few weeks‘ time, so I’d keep an eye out for the WiiM Pro going on sale…

(if WiiM turn this on its head and suddenly produce a special edition Squeezelite Mini, then I’ll eat my hat :p )

Without the UPnP Media Interface the WiiM Home App does not see my LMS library, so I don't think it will hurt to keep it until some better solution to be able to use a LMS library from the WHA.
Before buying pros to replace the minis for squeezelite, please understand that the LMS library will - almost certainly - never have better integration than it does now with the UPnP Media Interface.
Use the WHA for the initial setup and LMS/Material for your local content - and anything else you have setup within LMS.

I hear you. But, not everybody has the budget to keep buying a new device. Squeezelite is a fraction of the size of Roon. And there are ways to accomplish a “firmware” switch. Perhaps we should have little faith that they could do it without introducing endless bugs.😁 Maybe not, but a user like me who doesn’t use Amazon Music, might be more tempted at the Pros price point to start building Picoreplayers now that the boards are becoming available again. More important things in life anyway - like the mint 1986 BMW 635CSi I’m off to go test drive. Aweeeeee! Cheers.

Fair point if you can live without replaygain and crossfade that I understand Squeezelite gives you, and if you can live with the skipping bug that I believe the author of UPNPBridge holds out little hope of ever fixing.

God I'm not suggesting use LMS with UPnP, but it appears he still thinks that there may at some point be better integration with the WHA, which there - almost certainly - won't be, not that I think there needs to be.
I wouldn't want him to replace everything still hoping that one day...

EDIT: Just tell me Hollywood that you understand, so that I can sleep easy tonight ;-)

I don't have a mini but if I couldn't get the squeezelite functionality, I would still use LMS with UPNP and the home app for any particular features I can't get through LMS
It's up to the user how to use it

That's true, but Hollywood has been impatiently waiting - as we all have - for the squeezelite functionality already because of the constant skipping he's been experiencing, so I know using the UPnP Bridge isn't an option for him.

Hmmm... will there be a specific Plus version or will the new chip be installed in new production? Who? I seen The Who with Kenney Jones on drums, and Led Zeppelin with John Bonham. ....and I'll raise you Deep Purple.

LOL! I did re-enable the plugins. Material works perfect to find my library and the "Info" button shows the extras. The WHA (with the plugin) sees the library too, although it list Song Artists rather then Album Artist, so the list is a bit longer, but usable.

Right now I only have one WiiM Pro with the Squeezelite firmware. Without the plugin, it is the only WiiM that Material sees. With the plugin, it lists all the devices that WHA sees as before, but the one with the firmware update shows twice, with a different icon. So.... the one with the different icon (new firmware) plays perfect in Material, and the rest show as before (with the plugin) and still have the skipping/jumping issue.

If you do not want to buy a replacement device it still can work like before the new firmware, and the devices that have that firmware will show twice and are easy to know which you want to use. Not ideal, but I don't expect WiiM to be able to update their entry level device to be equal to their premium device.

@simbun , sleep well!

Just so people are aware the biggest and best difference between Pro with Squeezelite and Pro with UPnP Bridge is synchronisation with other LMS players.
The secondary differences are Smart ReplayGain and SmartCrossFade
It also eliminates any skipping error that some people experience

My understanding is they’re addressing an implementation issue of the AKM DAC in there for a relatively small issue (IMD, I think). But it will not be fixable by a firmware update to original Rev. 1 models of the Plus.

The only thing I got even close to Deep Purple is that long ago I shared a joint with Willie Nelson in an Amsterdam coffee shop.😵‍💫

no...not strictly speaking a story of imd...but of a strong harmonic degradation below 1khz...
For the moment we don't have any new comparable measurements with this "v2" version...

And as has been confirmed by those who measured/identified that anomaly, it’s inaudible so I’d contend barely worth worrying about or even mentioning ;)
