Ongoing Beta Beta Test: Qobuz Connect

I can see my pro plus in the qobuz beta app but it won’t connect and disappears from the list and then reappears ready to try again.

If i reboot the pro plus it connects but when i hit play nothing happens and it reverts back to my phone after a few seconds.

I’m not sure if it’s the firmware or the beta app. I’ve disabled ipv6 in case it was that but no luck so far

Try testing with Chromecast. Just a hunch.

Oh, also, there have been two updates to the beta app. Make sure you have the latest.

How about the speed of the playback control?
For example, how many seconds after pressing the skip button does the next track start?
Just replying again to this after quite a bit of testing. Transitions to the next track are almost instantaneous. Maybe a few milliseconds of latency.

BTW, for other testers, see how multiroom works for you (you need to set up the group in WHA). I have more to do, but earlier, I got lots of distortion, but more recently, that hasn't happened. Not sure why the change, but I'll try different things to see if I can make it come back.

I keep going back and forth between the beta app and the WHA. I don’t think Qobuz connect beta is sending hi res to the WiiM. It sound’s tinny in the hi end to me. The hi res in WHA is so better and smoother sounding. I don’t think it’s placebo even though it’s still states mp3 on the WHA. I’ve sent feedback to both WiiM and Qobuz so hopefully this changes.
I've been trying tracks at several resolutions (16/44, 24/96, 24/192), switching between WHA and Qconnect, and I'm not sure whether I can hear any real difference or not. Maybe the slightest difference in volume? I don't have the analytical equipment necessary to capture the waveforms, though, so I hope someone else does (and a listening environment without ambient noise) and can clarify if there are differences in what's coming out of the speakers or not.

Thanks for the reply. It works under chromecast. Do you know the latest qobuz beta version. There isn’t an update button in testflight, updates are set to automatic and I’m on Version: 8.99.0 (241129160699)

I’ve submitted a ticket to wiim anyway in case it’s not on my end

I can’t really test anymore I had to send more feedback to Qobuz because it won’t connect to my amp at the moment. It sees it as a target but nothing. I’ll try again later. It hasn’t been so smooth on my end using iOS.

What is "WHA"? Is it WiiM Home app?

I have to be honest and ask what does the Quboz Connect feature add when using WiiM streamers? Benefits? I'm using an Ultra and Pro in two different systems. They work fine using the iOS app on my iPhone 13.

Like all streaming service “native” apps, “Connect” mechanisms offer the full feature set at full resolution rather than the restricted set of features that are made available to third parties like WiiM for inclusion in their apps. Plus when the streaming service introduces a new feature, it’s immediately available in their own app and you don’t have to wait for a third party to update their app to include them.

Given “Connect” streams the service directly to your device, like your WiiM devices, from the cloud, once you have initiated the stream you can even turn off your phone until such times as you want to change what’s playing.

In my opinion, it’s a more natural and flexible way to play music from your chosen streaming service.

Yes.

You get all the functionality of the Qobuz mobile client (much of which WHA cannot provide/duplicate) while sending content directly from the Qobuz cloud to your WiiM endpoints(s) of choice, at full resolution.

I've seen some choose-a-destination timeouts which seem to subside after a while. It feels like a handshake issue, but I can't tell yet where it's occurring along the signal path. I've reported these to WiiM and Qobuz. Most likely not a hardware issue, so shouldn't be too difficult to analyze and address/fix.

I got the update for my WiiM Ultra installed and I have the Qobuz Beta app on my iPhone. I see Wiim Ultra on my output device options in the Qobuz Beta app but every time I tap on it, it just keeps spinning and never connects.

I think you're seeing the timeout bug I described in the post just above yours. Recommend you report it to both Qobuz and WiiM via the respective channels. I've found it comes and goes for reasons I can't correlate with anything.

By any chance do you have a mesh network in your home? I use an Eero mesh and I wonder if it is causing an issue.

I have multiple APs (homerunned via Ethernet to my router) that operate as a mesh. My phone and the Ultra are currently on the same AP. And the same VLAN.

I've got one WiiM Pro on a different AP. I'll see if there's any weirdness about that. Qobuz did tell me that Qobuz Connect uses mDNS to discover and identify other local Qconnect clients and endpoints, and that everything needs to be on the same subnet, so you should confirm that's all sorted. I don't know if Eero support for mDNS is considered rock-solid, but should be easy enough to research. I'll post back here if I see any issues connecting to my WiiM on the other AP.

ETA: No problems with the other Pro. Connected and played right away!

I’m getting the same with my Ultra. My Pro is in a different system and connects to Qobuz Connect right away. Just got an alert that the Ultra has the latest firmware enabling QC. Could it be an issue with the Ultra? I have an eero mesh system that works fine for all other functions of the Ultra.

Same, no issues otherwise using my WiiM Ultra on my Eero mesh, even picks up my Plex server fine. Just can’t get this Qobuz Connect beta to work. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

3 things:
  • If you installed the original Qconnect-beta1 Android client, there have been 2 separate updates since then. Search on "Qobuz" in the Play Store and make sure you have the latest.
  • If you haven't done so, reach out to the Qobuz Connect support team via email and confirm your Ultra is whitelisted on their end.
  • If so, submit a ticket to WiiM about the problem.
In your Qobuz beta app, how is your Ultra labeled (e.g., Qobuz Connect/Google Cast/network device)? Does it have more than one label?

Got same problem here. After rebooting my mobile devices (iOS) it works.
