Beta Test: WiiM Persistent Group

Hi, I have read this thread with interest. I have also read another thread where a poster has said:

"Sorry, you can create multiple groups as long as the same device does not overlap between two groups. Thus it is possible to create the main floor and the basement at the same time, but currently it would be difficult to play same music all groups at the same time.

As you and @harkpabst mentioned, the persistent group feature currently under development allows you to create and control multiple groups at the same time
.".

Will this Beta update permit a single Wiim to be included (ie overlap) in two separate persistent groups. I realise you would not be able to play to each group simultaneously if a wiim was in both groups but what I am wanting to know is whether you could have, for example, a group of 3 wiims upstairs and grouped as "upstairs" and then a group of another 3 wiims grouped as "downstairs" and then a further group called "all wiims" which comprises the 6 wiims. So wiim devices could be members of multiple groups.

Also, is it possible for these groups to be visible in music apps outside of the Wiim App (I suspect not).

Thanks in advance.

Yes, it is possible.

But it did not work well with the early beta firmware I tested. Maybe it will work with the newer ones.

It can be played from the streaming app by Cast. However, GoogleCast (Chromecast) cannot play in the WiiM group. For example, it can be played on AlexaCast, Spotify Connect or Tidal Connect.

Thanks for the prompt reply. If I didn’t want visitors accessing my wifi, could they stream to a group then and if not, what is the simplest way the stream to a wiim?

Before persistent groups, that almost reads as self evident - if you had grouped A,B and C, you couldn’t also have a group with C and D at the same time.

Yeah, much the same as you can currently do with Alexa multi room music (MRM) groups, or Chromecast groups where you can define your devices to be in as many groups as you wish.

Multi device groups tend to be proprietary and not visible to other technologies - in general, a Linkplay group created in the WiiM app won’t be visible to other apps, nor can the WiiM app see Alexa MRM nor Chromecast groups. However, Spotify can play to a Linkplay group by connecting to the main member of the group.

I’m sure @Wiimer will keep me right if any of the above is inaccurate :)
