Beta Test: Plex

My subnet mask is 255.255.254.0
The gateway is x.x.128.1
The DHCP pool ranges from x.x.129.20 to x.x.x.255 (still in the same subnet)

My NAS had a static IP x.x.128.128 and the WiiM automatically got assigned an address in the x.x.129.x range.

I fixed the issue by bringing my NAS' static IP in the x.x.129.x range, but this shouldn't have been a problem! Seems like WiiM is not reading the subnet mask correctly. And why all of this even matters with a Plex Server boggles my mind. So far for ease of use :)
A lot of consumer network devices cannot correctly handle a network mask other than 255.255.255.0, even though you can often supply a different mask as you did. I assume this is the problem with the WiiM as well.

Oh good to know! That's how the ISP's router was configured by default, but I might have to simplify this then :)

I didn't mean subnet mask, but a subnet other than the one in your local IP DHCP range like it was apparently in your case lets say 192.168.128.xxx. vs 192.168.129.xxx
In my case Nas was in 192.168.1.xxx and Wiim was in 192.168.31.xxx, so once my Wiim was in my local IP 192.168.1.xxx. , my Plex library from my Nas, was in the same network and was fixed😊

Just strange we have to figure this out by ourselves... The whole idea behind Plex means you can access your media from all over the world with 0 configuration. The way they implemented it feels just weird and definitely not up to Plex standards :)

Here's more hoping for a proper endpoint implementation in the future.

Yes, that means now your NAS and WiiM are in the same subnet when 255.255.255.0 is applied as a subnet mask. I have seen this happening a lot, also with routers supplied by ISP's.

It's not Plex that is causing the problem, it is either the router or the WiiM (or both).

In my case the subnet mask was the same all rhe time for Wiim and NAS, so for me that didn't matter at all.
As I said before It was caused by the subnet created in the local IP adress no in the subnet mask.

Just installed my Ultra 😍

Smooth sailing until I wanted to set up Plex (in its current form).

My server apparently is on a 'other' network 😛
(no it is not, although I am running Tailscale VPN on it to make time machine backups from outside my home)

"Anti-climatic" is an understatement even

I have exactly the same issue. Plex is in one subnet and the Wiim is in another.
I don't understand why the Wiim device cares if this is the case or not. If the plex server and the Wiim device both have local IPs then assume the owner knows what they are doing and give it a go. I love my Wiim's but they are literally the only devices I've ever owned that seem obsessed with everything being in the same subnet.

Yes indeed and that's the odd thing about it.

Normally for Plex it shouldn't really matter which network you're in, yet for WiiM's current implementation it does.
