Beta Testing: HDMI ARC Enhancements

I usually don't turn the WiiM on when watching TV, unless I need it to play the TV sound.
Yeah, this part doesn't work for me. It does seem maddeningly close though, maybe my ticket will take it over the line.

I have once suggested "Active HDMI CEC control" but no one reacted to that.
Maybe a decent name -- if it also did what the beta description said it should -- would be "Always available for HDMI audio", with the meaning of the toggle flipped. Description something like "When disabled, WiiM will not function as the TV's external speaker when in standby or on a different input".

This issue is becoming worse, as my Ultra is now rebooting every evening.

@WiiM Team, How is the "check" on this issue going?
Hi @hgo58 ,

At this time, fully addressing this issue will require improvements to the hardware circuitry. Currently, during power-on the TV default to using the device as the audio output. Once startup is complete, the software switches the output back to the TV’s built-in speakers. We are also evaluating whether this behavior can be further optimized through software without making changes to the hardware design.

Best way to solve the issue is to stop the forced rebooting!

@hgo58 I am curious, what is the "internally scheduled forced rebooting"? I've never noticed it. Does it happen late at night? Is it on every device or something specific to a firmware? Or an option?

The forced rebooting happens about every 3 days when the WiiM has been inactive for some time. You can see it, as it clears the current play queue.

Hi,
I have weird behavior with the beta firmware (stable one is even worse). If WiiM is in standby mode and I switch on the TV, TV briefly redirects the output to WiiM. Then WiiM wakes up and after that TV switches back to internal speakers. This is happening even if auto sensing is turned off and Use HDMI Audio Only in HDMI Mode and Use TV Speakers When HDMI is Inactive both are On.

This forced me to revert to my old HDMI Arc extractor which is connected to WiiM via Optical which is not very convenient.

@dinobg Interesting - I have not observed this. My Wiim stays off if (and only if) it was not on the TV input when it went into standby. My only problem is that I'd like it to stay off regardless. Can you test what happens depending on the last Wiim input? Thanks!

Hi
Did you submit a ticket?

If you encounter issues with the beta firmware, please submit a ticket through the feedback section of the WiiM app to send device logs to the team. (Submitting a ticket immediately after the issue occurs will automatically include the logs.)

I also recommend including
"[Beta Test: HDMI ARC Enhancements]"
in the subject line.

I do have this behavior when the WiiM Ultra is rebooting but not when in normal standby.

Do the WiiM change to HDMI input or do it stay on the same input as when it went into standby?

Hi,
Yes I did, I raised a ticket already.

Wiim stays on the original input before the standby.

Hi.
Considering to replace my pro-plus with an ultra. Currently i have an optical switch to conmute CD transport optical and TV optical. I thought the Ultra with HDMI input will allow me remove that piece of hardware and need to switch the optical when wanting to hear TV / CD through the wiim... however reading this thread I am a bit confused on how the HDMI ARC will actually work... I mean, i don't wnt the TV to wake up my wiim ultra, don't wan't either that ultra switches automatically to HDMI input and that the 12v trigger out wakes up my amp whenever my kids watch Paw Patrol on TV, i just want to consider HDMI input as an additional input i may switch to IF I WANT TO (not automatically)..when watching movies/tv shows and i want to use my 2.0 system.
Is that possible?

It will work as you want it to, once this beta version has been included in the main firmware. That has unfortunately not happened yet (after more than a year after first beta).

Really? Wouldnt the auto sense hdmi in set to disabled just to what i want?

The HDMI is still active, so your TV will probably change output to HDMI ARC. You will not wake up the WiiM but there will be no sound on the TV.

The beta version, tracked in this thread, allow you to disable CEC discovery until you manually select the HDMI input on the WiiM. So the TV will only switch to ARC when this is selected as input on the Ultra.

Hi,
My old Samsung TV is still trying to route the audio to ARC when Ultra is in standby even with the beta firmware. So finally I used my HDMI ARC extractor controlled via Ultra trigger through DIY power strip. Can be issue with my TV, but previously I had cheap Sony soundbar which worked flawlessly.

Did you enabled the new settings for HDMI? It will disabled CEC discovery and the TV will not be able to "see" the WiiM. So it should not change output to ARC, unless you do it manually.

So what does this setting do...and what happen if disabled? This is official firmware form 28th Feb and wiim home apl 3.5.1. Cant be CEC be disabled on the Tv or something to make it work as expected?1000131093.jpg

It don't really work as described. The WiiM will not change to HDMI ARC but the TV is still doing it.

You may be able to disable CEC on the TV but then there will be no ARC at all. Same as removing the cable.

With the beta version new options the CEC discovery is off on the WiiM, unless you select the HDMI ARC input.

Hi,

I got it working as expected with beta firmware 5.2.809757 and the 2 options you mentioned Enabled.
Upgrading from Pro Plus to Ultra was mainly because of HDMI to TV, which i previously had to input by optical and external switch as i also have CD player on optical . I was dissapointed i could not make it work "properly"...i.e. The TV audio was kidnaped (muted) because it was redirecting to ARC HDMI when wiim wasn't listening to HDM input.

Now it works as i want. If i watch TV Wiim doesn't wake up automatically. Not all my TV watching needs to be redirected to my HiFi. if I switch Wiim TV does not automatically switch audio towards Wiim, unless Wiim is set to HDMI input.

Thanks a lot! I think i am not missing any official firmware features with this beta, which i think is ahead of official (according to build number), so good.
