...the world isn't all sunshine and rainbows. In principle, it should be permissible—especially where people come together—to take a critical look at things. I think it's just naive to believe that, given the current direction of the company, we are dealing with a reputable streaming service, and it annoys me that the services that still behave reasonably fairly will most likely lose out in the long run. Of course, I could continue to close my eyes and be “happy,” but I'm not one of those people who close their eyes to reality. I currently see how Spotify treats artists among my circle of friends. Spotify is actively suppressing creativity and establishing art as purely a money-making business. Many young people will no longer be able to experience what I was able to experience in my youth. Soon, music will only come from a test tube. All this equality and superficiality is already getting on my nerves. If you think my comments are going too far, just ignore them and continue to see the world as it is not.

Are you aware that it's not Spotify you're blaming, but us Spotify users?

Please start anti-Spotify thread and bitch about it all you want. This is a thread about Spotify lossless. I'm fed up.

qobuz. for example. and if the lower price is the reason they should think about what they get for this few bucks.

edit, checked it. for the bitrate-fetishists amazon music hd is available. for music first apple music is also an alternative.

Now this is just my own opinion

I have tried all streaming services and the main thing I take away is that you can look at all the numbers of bit rates etc but mastering of the recording is the most important thing
Most of my my music was recorded back when high res didn’t even exist.
I have spent a few weeks on Deezer and the FLAC 16/44 was good quality but I missed the random tracks Qobuz added when my playlist finished and connect
Now Qobuz customer service really annoys me but I will be paying for a year next month for the two reasons I mentioned
If someone has no choice or prefers to use Spotify that’s their choice and though I disagree with using them it’s none of my business
We all have free will and can do whatever we want with our money
Just my opinion and you can ignore me if you want 😊

Please can we keep this thread strictly on topic, this is Not a free for all have a go at Spotify thread.

If anyone feels strongly about this, then as suggested earlier, Please start an anti-Spotify thread elsewhere.
Sorry posted my opinion before reading I will now exit stage left 😜

Haven’t listened to this yet, but plan to after lunch

Edit: a so-so chat but it does surprise me a bit about some stuff they’re not aware of, like how things like Spotify Connect, Qobuz Connect are implemented on streamers etc, and querying whether Deezer has a similar Connect mechanism (it doesn’t, just remote control of another Deezer app instance). Some valid points made though.

Oh, how cute, you're offended 😂 Just to remind you, I was referring specifically to Spotify Lossless and the restrictions that come with it, and questioning why anyone would be willing to pay even more for these restrictions. When it comes to your beloved Spotify, you are incapable of accepting criticism and have accordingly kicked up a fuss. And yes, of course I realize that Spotify users enable the machinations of this criminal gang through their monthly contributions. My second answer was precisely intended to bring this to mind. Unfortunately, however, I think the discussion is pointless due to differing views. Nevertheless, I will definitely not let anyone silence me here in the future.

Very unfortunately, perhaps because of my poor English, you don't seem to understand what I'm trying to say at all..

I'm simply asking you to criticise Spotify as you wish in the appropriate place. Just be aware that this is the wrong place.

If you start your own thread and criticise, I have nothing to say 🤷

it is all about spotify lossless. and it should be allowed to write it is the expected bs from one of the usual subjects.
so. ranks closed. you exercised it. stand at ease. show harmony. good boys. 😂😂

In Spain we still don’t have access to lossless audio, and now the sampling information (bit depth and kHz) has also disappeared from the display. Honestly, this feels misleading, because without that information users cannot verify the actual quality of the stream. It gives the impression that we might simply be receiving the same old MP3 quality while being told otherwise.

The display will show “lossless” as appropriate. Chromecast similarly doesn’t show the bitrate as it can’t reliably be determined from the stream. If your WiiM is connected to an external DAC, you might be able to see some info there, otherwise you may need to trust your ears. Or just enjoy the music ;)

True, but I say this because my own music, which I had distributed in MP3 through streaming services, appeared on Qobuz and Tidal as ‘CD quality’, which is not true.

And this happens to many small artists: if they want their music in CD quality, they need to upload it in FLAC to these services; otherwise, the sample is converted, but the data lost when going from MP3 to FLAC is irrecoverable. That’s why I am convinced that much of what appears as lossless simply isn’t.

Nothing is lost when converting MP3 to FLAC. The same "quality" as was in the MP3 file is still in the FLAC version. It's a lossless conversation.

"CD quality" don't say anything about how the source quality is, just that it's a 16/44.1 sampling. A bad recording can still be CD quality.

I’m surprised any artists, small or otherwise, would go through the hassle of converting their initial lossless WAV recording to lossy MP3 and uploading the latter to music services - I thought most distribution and streaming services had been mandating lossless FLAC for some time. But then again, I’m just a consumer, not a provider. I’d also expect the major record labels which arguably provide the major part of a streaming service’s catalog to have been uploading lossless CD quality or higher for longer.

I guess unless you do some detailed audio analysis of each track, you wouldn’t really know if it was a good quality 320kbps lossy track or a lossless CD track, assuming of course that the track had been well mastered in the first instance. I guess some things you need to take on faith 🤷‍♂️

When I uploaded my files, they didn’t allow FLAC or WAV, only MP3 320. That has now changed. That’s why I don’t think everything is a WAV-to-FLAC conversion, but rather MP3-to-FLAC. So even if it still shows as CD quality, you’re most likely just listening to an MP3 in many cases.
