Question about Airplay support for WiiM Ultra by WiiM mini

There are many options depending on where you’ve ripped them to. Where are the rips and what did you use to rip the CDs?
I honestly have ripped my CDs via Apple Music and the files are on an external hard drive. I’m not really aware of other options.

I originally started ripping my CDs to add to a sony digital Walkman - however I stoped when I realized the Walkman wasn’t the device for me.

Is this on a MAC or PC? You could try installing a media server package like Minimserver and point that at your repository of tracks. That server would then appear under Home Music Share in the WiiM Home app from where you could play to the Ultra.

Alternatively you could use the beta WiiM home desktop app appropriate to your Mac/pc and use that to play directly to the Ultra over WiFi, not airplay.

Thank you for this information there is so much to learn. Of course airplay over Apple is preferred. But glad to know there may be some work around. I have about 1300 CDs to rip and I know that will be time consuming.

To be honest, airplay from Apple Music is probably the least preferable option as, except for one very particular case on macOS, lossless CD quality and above are converted to lossy 256kbps AAC. Using a media server like Minimserver or even the beta WiiM home desktop app can play your rips at full resolution wirelessly to the Ultra without needing a Mini or other device. And with artwork :)

Airplay 2’s benefits really only come into play when you need to play to a group of airplay devices, albeit still at reduced resolution.

Try the beta desktop app first and see if it can access the rips you already have

You were correct. I just downloaded the beta app. I like this option best. My next question is, is there a software you recommend for ripping CDs? What quality should I rip them in?

For Windows the best ripper imho is dbPoweramp. The paid version (about $30). Rip to FLAC at Level 5.

Yes I think it is but I can’t say it’s the best option for a Mac as I don’t use a Mac. If it’s as good as the Windows version then it probably is though.
Yeah, this link would confirm it is well thought of on macOS too (along with PerfectTunes)

I have some dbPoweramp set up tips that can avoid pain down the line.

1. Rip to FLAC level 5.
2. Add Album and Track ReplayGain tags. You do this in the DSP section at the bottom of the screen. Don’t mistake for the setting that permanently adjusts the gain.
3. Make sure your file names are constructed with discno-trackno-title format and set discno and trackno to apply leading zeros.
4. Set dbPoweramp to save files in Artist/Album folder structure.
5. Make sure cover art is at least 600x600 and try to be consistent

Is there a manual for this software when I rip the music on appears under all music on the iPhone or iPad WiiM home app. When I click albums nothing shows in the app.

I’m not sure I get what to do for

Could I be doing something wrong? When I rip the CD it creates the folder artist/album/flac files and artwork. However on the wiim home server, it does not list any albums or artists when I click the categories. The songs only appear under all music

As I posted earlier, the Ultra does receive the cover art for the first track but that doesn’t change on subsequent tracks. The app shows the cover art as the track changes as expected.

I’ll see what response I get to my ticket
Got a response: “ We have submitted your question to our engineers for analysis, and this issue will be addressed in future updates.“

Sorry but not using the Windows beta so can't really advise. However are the files in the same top level location as ones you can see e.g. "Music" and do you have to tell the WiiM app to rescan?

Are we sure Windows is being used, not MacOS? I think we need some more info - screenshots as usual would useful, as well as the kit and network involved otherwise we're guessing to a degree

Good point. I don't know why I have assumed Windows.
Have you tried the app on either Windows or Mac in this mode?

Personally I have the desktop beta WiiM Home app on Windows and I can navigate by Album, Artist, Genre and Tracks under My Library which is pointed at a few of my music folders. I don't use it much as I use LMS most of the time, and it's just installed for test purposes

I created a folder on my external hard drive connected to my Mac. Dragged that folder into the home desktop app. When the cd rips it creates the appropriate folders. Artist/ album / files. On the home desktop app everything appears correctly. However on the phone app nothing looks right. When I click albums. Nothing shows up. When I click all music everything shows up.
