Which amp to match the Ultra?

I "splurged" when I bought Douk Audio H7 Pro to drive my B&W 685s and use a leftover AudioSource AMP102 to drive my Snell PS10 subwoofer when the 2nd plate amp started crapping out and decided to just make it a passive subwoofer.

Aiyama A07 has served me well with my Dali Spektor 2s, but a new RSL IA255.1 from a California company is set to arrive today. Will see if it's an upgrade or not!! Happy hunting, and don't neglect using quality cables and connectors!!!

Treated myself to a Marantz MM7025 for Xmas, beautiful sound using the unbalanced inputs. 12volt trigger to keep things easy for on/off.

I set the Vrms on the WiiM Ultra to 1 as I found 2 a bit fatiguing (could’ve just been my ears on that day but 1 works great and the input sensitivity is 1.2 on the Marantz). I’m running a Marantz CD6007 into optical. Rega P3 into a Schiit Skoll into line in and a Pioneer Sub (not sure what model), in the WiiM settings I put the sub in bypass mode and main speakers to output bass as it gave me a fuller sound with more “kick”. All to come out of a pair of KEF Q350’s.

After room correction and some tweaking I’m enjoying music bliss! I am toying with the idea of going with an external DAC by Schiit to be able to use the balanced inputs on the amp but not sure if it’ll make a noticable difference and since Schiit takes a restock fee its not that easy to test things unless you’re willing to lose some change.

Anyway just wanted to share my setup as I have learned a lot from reading in the forums before taking the plunge into the pre amp world

Happy holidays!

asnow1,

How are you liking your RSL IA255.1 amplifier? How does it compare to the Aiyama A07?

Absolutely love it, zero noise, crystal clear and loud balanced sound. I set it to 70% volume and tone controls at dead center and never touch anything. It doesn't ever get more than slightly warm even when jamming out. It's been the unsung hero of my system.

I'm still fairly new to the whole Chinese class D amp market, but it seems like Aiyima is generally lagging a bit behind 😀

Oh, and I did comparison listening between the RSL and the A07, no contest, the RSL blew the Aiyima out of the water!

I haven't tried the RSL but do have an Aiyima A70 (not 07) and have been very pleased with it. It replaced a class A Schiit Aegir (which I liked a lot) which replaced a class D Bel Canto C5i prior to that which I also like a lot. (Had tube amps prior to the Bel Canto.)

My suspicion is that it would be difficult to find much of an audible difference between most of the class D PFFB amps of the same general wattage, so one's choice would depend more on what features are desired along with cosmetic appearance, price and availability.

Since the Ultra will be a pre-pro, I'm curious to know what amp will everyone be matching the Wiim with.

I've been looking for somethings similar in size to the Ultra with at least 80w per channel (stereo).
I'm using my Quad 405-2, which I have just finished re-capping. I've set the line out level to 500mv which is perfect for the 405 (100w RMS into 8ohm load with 500mv input). Loudspeakers are my venerable Tannoy Berkeleys.
The Ultra works superbly with this setup. I am very, very, impressed with it's performance and would seriously expect to have to pay well over €1000 to get a discernible increase in fidelity.

I just received it a few days ago, and I've got it plugged into my Sabaj A30a. The USB connection was a bit unstable, so I've gone over to Coax - although I'm still experimenting with different cables and things. So far, I've been extremely happy with the sound. The Sabaj is a digital amp (or something like that) that doesn't have an internal DAC - it does something with the signal going directly into the amplifier circuit that I won't pretend to understand. In any case, the sound is excellent, powering my old pair of Norh SM 5.1s that I've been hanging onto for decades now!
I have the same identical setup (Sabaj A30a + Wiim Ultra, coax connection) and I'm really happy with them. Sooner or later I will buy another amplifier (Yamaha A-S2200???) but I already know that it won't be an upgrade both in terms of intrumental measurements and sound experience.

Why then? :)
I have only seen Yamaha's high-end A-S series amplifiers in person once. Their build quality is truly remarkable. In a hobby like this, not only the sound but also the beauty of an object offers greater listening pleasure. Furthermore, Yamaha amplifiers are known for having high-level performance.

I see. To say "I understand" would be a gross exaggeration, but I see where you're coming from. :)

If it was a Quad 33/303 I might even understand ...
