Which amp to match the Ultra?

Yesterday I tried a Fosi v3 (48v 5a power supply) i use to power bass shakers on my sim rig, very surprised how good it sounded and no issues running the Kef r3 which go down to 3.2 ohm at levels approaching 80db, a good punchy bass and slightly elevated highs, it didn't get hot after 30 mins use.
I like my highs elevated any way, might be my age over 60 and used a lot of power tools:
I would definitely recommend a listen for the price.

I am using an old Bladelius amp:
SAT Amplifix.
This plays wonderful on my Proac Studio 148, also old.
Very happy.

3e Audio A5.

You're welcome. ;)

I don't have the A80, but 3e Audio beats the V3 Mono for my taste.
small precaution to check, take, maybe with a fairly low input impedance (10khz)...even if it will work well in 96% of cases...no?
;-)

I am very pleased with my V3 monos in stock form. Have not succumbed (yet!) to Op Amp rolling.
Check out the review of the A80 - wait till the end for the comparison to V3 monos.

My Marantz PM6007 integrated (which I love) is out for repair so I didn’t want to be void of music and bought the Douk Audio A5 as a temp for $89 (+tax obviously). I’m using it as a power amp fully cranked with the Ultra as the preamp with A Schiit Modi Multibit DAC between, through KEF Q350’s currently listening to Steven Wilson’s latest album and I’m floored. WTH this cannot be possible, I’m sure once I get my Marantz back I’ll think it’s better sounding (please let me think it’s better, haha). Sorry just losing it how good this sounds. I’m in disbelief. Anyone else tried the Douk A5 with the WiiM? Sorry if I’ve missed any earlier posts about similar setup.

A few questions. Which power supply is used? is it getting very hot ?Is there an automatic shutdown/power-on feature?

Hi Temruk! I’m using the supplied 32v power supply but you can use 24 up to 48. Barely lukewarm after 2 hours of solid use at playing around 75db. No automatic shutdown/power on so that would be the only negative I guess oh and pretty small speaker terminals but I’m using banana plugs so no problem for me, but a positive note is there’s a high pass filter if you decide to plug in a sub to the aux out on the back (I’ve got mine plugged into the WiiM). Might play with the opamps in the future 😁

That lowly analogue high pass only filter won't impress any owner of a WiiM Ultra though. ;) You're doing the right thing not using it.

I know everyone is raving about this pretty lame addition over on ASR, but at least for those with an ultra the money would have been better spent on a volume bypass, proper on/off switch and/or auto on/off. :)

I would be happy to purchase such a device.
The 3e Audio A5 and A7 (and A7 Mono) come very close to that. They don't have a trigger input, which is a turn-off for some, and only rely on auto on/off.

Looks a little costly for what it does at a first glance. Pure amplifier mode sounds interesting. Those Infinion chips are far less common than TI TPA32xx Chips and S.M.S.L. is a bit tight-lipped what they are actually using. No independent measurements yet. I would sit and wait.

Unfortunately, judging by the reviews, these devices have a problem with "turning on on cue". And also the price is a little too high compared to competitors.

Not at all. If anything it's rather the contrary. With high sensitivity speakers and/or desktop use they might go into auto-off too soon for real low level listening. They come alive almost immediately.

With ~85 dB efficiency speakers and at a distance of ~2.5 m I can listen to radio paradise with the Ultra volume set to 11. When set to 10 it can cut out intermittently, depending on the music. Personally, I would never listen at such low volume, but each to their own.

The V3 Mono are less sensitive and allow for lower listening levels, but don't sound as good.

Actual volume setting numbers will depend on the configured output voltage (2 Vrms in my case), but the minimum loudness of the acoustic signal is not affected. A temporary workaround is to disable the volume bypass and reduce the gain on the amp.

3e Audio have announced a change in auto-off sensitivity for the next batch, which is expected to arrive at the end of February.
