Which NAS works well with WiiM Pro?

That is so true, so do you usually keep a manual back up of your NAS drive?

I guess I could invest in an external USB3 drive for that specific purpose.
My master copy is on a PC which is then synced to a NAS for 24*7 access and backed up to offline storage - whenever I get around to it.
My non-music backups are much more robust.

@rccarguy and @simbun - can you kindly help me make the right decision in terms a nice entry level NAS drive?

Do you think this will serve me well:-

I like the form factor of this one, nice for a rack cabinet:-

Let me have your expert thoughts.

That Realtek will be fine, if you just need a NAS I have DS418. the same except mine has four bays. LMS will not install on this NAS unfortunately.

Accessing should be easy, just create directories, find it on your LAN on your PC/mac/wiim home app, save it to favourite in app. Map NAS drive on your PC/mac so seen as a drive I use Z: and Y:

For a small music collection it's ok browsing by folder, although if you do start having large local flac/mp3 collection look into a dedicated music service.

ah right that's found it. Quick play, I prefer LMS for the Wiim.
Can you post screen shots?

Oh, so WHA supports LMS? - sorry, I'm a bit confused, I was under the impression that you have to use a dedicated LMS phone app to access the music files served by LMS.

And just navigating video files in my NAS via Kodi direct accessing directories.
That's cool, any set-ups to enable that?

The WHA doesn't support LMS.

@rccarguy will always recommend LMS no matter your requirements. For folder browsing it's a ridiculously complicated solution, especially given its folder browsing capabilities are very basic.

Topic is probably diverging into multiple sections, where you might not need it.

But accessing share on NAS, you'll access the drive(s) once you enter nas name, username and password, you can then see directories you then save each one as either music, tv shows, movies. You can then access these directories in kodi.

For Wiim, similar, you enter in nas name, username and password see the directories, then enter in music path.

yeah you don't need LMS. Wiim directory acess will be enough .

My music collection is in the multiple TB so browsing by directory would be impossible.

Don't forget you'll need to buy hard drives. I personally use WD Elements and "shuck" them. Due to extortionate pricing of loose drives.

Just came across this on the LMS website:-
Several streamers and amps available from WiiM natively support LMS. Presently, this includes the WiiM Pro, Pro Plus, Ultra, and Amp.

Noted.

Thank you for clarifying that. I understand your preference for LMS but my needs are super simple.

All WiiM products except the Mini can act as LMS endpoints (can be used as players from within the LMS system) but the WHA can't access the LMS library.

Minimserver works and is simple enough. Installing now

The drives are 3.5" spinning HD, just need to open up Elements case, remove it, then fit into a NAS. Yes they're plenty fast enough for 4K.

If you want official "NAS" drives look into WD Red. Compare the prices...my 16TB Recertified WD cost £175....a WD Red is more than that. Apparently WD "white" drives in Elements are not recommended for NAS's (as may need to do capton tape on the connector..but mine work fine.

@Samazar
One of the limitations of using samba access in the WHA is that they can't be added to playlists.

ok.

Installed minimserver but wiim home app isn't finding it.
It's quite popular on the forum (I've been using it for more than a decade) so I can't think why, unless its still indexing.

Check the MinimServer log (right click on the MinimServer icon > Show log).
