BTW, is the volume knob on the WiiM Amp Ultra the same quality as the WiiM Ultra 😑?
Or would it be closer to Amp Pro 🤔?
Or will it have a fine quality feel like Vibelink 😄?

This is an important point for me.

It won't be a simple potentiometer but hopefully has better feel than the Ultra. The volume control on the original WiiM Amp felt fine to me 🙂

WiiM Amp Ultra for the front speakers and WiiM Amp for the rears? Sounds like a good combination for this guy. Thanks WiiM keep up the great work!
Are you certain you can use the Amp for rear speaker? I am not sure but I think only the pro can you use for a Dolby system

The statement:

Is interesting. Does this mean you can created a 5.1 system with WIIM or can it integrate with an exiting 5.1 system (e.g. Denon) using preouts for the LR channel or some other configuration?

Primarily the former although you might be able to use (or indeed have been able to use), say, a WiiM device being fed those preouts linked to a second WiiM device which fed the rear speakers, for example. But that doesn’t require much involvement from WiiM in processing the Dolby audio.

not sure how i feel about this as i recently (2 months ago) added the vibelink to my ultra.
as Im not some super audiophile i would have preferred a single device instead of multiple with extra cabling/power/etc.

This is really close to the definition of end-game system in my dictionary. I only use streaming sources and I do not have demanding speakers, so having the network capabilities of a WiiM Ultra (without phono stage and some of the inputs that I anyway do not use) together with a decent dual-chip TPA-based amp in the same good-looking box with a (small) screen is all I could ask for.

It's a pity that I have just bought a used Rotel RB-1572 to pair with my Ultra and I am really in love with the combo... I think that WiiM should start a fidelity program by which we could give back some of our old WiiM products in exchange when buying the new releases... I have literally had all of them at some point as part of my systems.

Enter, the WiiM Sound:
  • Home theater integration: Functions as a surround or center channel speaker in a Dolby 5.1 setup for immersive home cinema experiences.
So in my mind, ideally, Ultra for front L, R and Sub, WiiM Sounds for wireless surrounds (and maybe center). Then I can ditch the sound bar all together and have a single system for Stereo/Music listening and TV/Movie watching. Hopefuly the WiiM Sound price point doesn't make this cost prohibitive.

Congratulations to @WiiM Team @RyanWithWiiM for a great product unveiling this week!

WiiM has demonstrated that it can do highly capable consumer audio products. Many of these products are very versatile and appeal to many seeking capable compact audio electronics.

However WiiM still needs to penetrate the higher end dedicated streamer transport opinion market. WiiM streamers are very good but face user reaction in the higher tiers of audio playback, with negative reviews claiming lifeless presentation, lack of dynamics, etc. I suspect that is in part due to a lack of understanding how to set the streamer for external DAC bit-perfect performance (Fixed full, volume, EQ off, as well as other DSP settings). There’s also a concern of creeping ‘featuritis’ a concern for interference and bug creeping for what should be an untouched bit-perfect stream. WiiM can beat all this and raise its brand by releasing a top notch streamer transport to sell to the high end segment. All components already exist. I would see a WiiM Ultra Streamer+ with this configuration (essentially a decontented Ultra):

1 - Strict Streamer Transport
2 - No video display
3 - Linear filtered power supply.
4 - USB, SPDIF, AES digital out
5 - No grouping capability
6 - No internal DAC and analog out - I doubt this will ever pass.
7 - Custom firmware with the ultimate goal to pass out unblemished/untouched bit-perfect streams. It should have a 'Purist' mode/setting where the internal DSP is disabled, FixedVol max set, all EQ off, etc.- a dummy Purist switch to make sure reviewers do not miss required settings.

Price it at US$300-500 and WiiM would have a brand leader that would bring the utmost respect to the brand.

This is not entirely without merit. Look at the sad competition for that price:

I am quite confident WiiM is capable of easily, "destroying," an SMSL N100 for same or less money by building a superior pure streamer device (no DAC, no analog out).

Granted...who knows how well it would actually sell. Seems like a very different customer base than what they have now, and what they have now is the masses. Anything else is niche.

What makes you say that? Wiim hasn't done anything that cutting-edge in audio hardware at the moment... an experience unrelated to the topping brands smls etc in this area, but we're making a mark on the software side etc... and products well placed in terms of quality-functions/affordable price...
