I got really excited when the sound was introduced, then again when the sound lite was. But EVERY time these things need AC power, why???? Why can‘t they have a batterypack or at least USB power? It‘s such a majot shame always needing to be close to an outlet :( Why does WiiM make it so hard to have 1 decent system with additional lightet units for multiroom

So, sorry this may be a very basic, even dumb question, but just to be completely sure: If I have a WiiM amp connected to a pair of passive speakers + a Subwoofer, if I add a W sound or Sound lite to create a 3.1 setup, will the Sound or Sound lite simultaneously play any source like hdmi, RCA, optical as well as streaming? or will it only work with streaming?

Welcome.

A portable speaker has been requested a few times.
I think wiim are aware of (at least some) users' desire for such a speaker.
I can't recall if it was listed as a specific item in recent user surveys for what we'd like to see.
Maybe it's on their to do list.

Is it 4.1ch instead of 3.1ch?

If your WiiM Amp has passive speakers and a subwoofer connected but no center speaker, adding 2 Wsound units will create a 4.1ch setup.

If you add one WSound unit, it will be 3.1 as you mentioned, sorry.

The WiiM Amp does not support wireless Dolby 5.1, but within a multi-room group, you can play all input sources from the Amp simultaneously. So the answer is yes.

(However, I don't think Google Cast from phone to Amp supported group playback.)

Is 3.1 officially supported yet? I thought we only had a workaround cutdown DD5.1 setup?

This is standard MRM, not wireless Dolby. Linking the Amp and WSound to a group enables playback in 3.1ch (all stereo).🙂

I believe my explanation was unclear and led to misunderstanding.😅

An all stereo MRM group isn’t true 3.1 though, is it? I’d expect provision for a true centre channel which that wouldn’t provide.

Yeah You're absolutely right, but since @Fernandodelae didn't mention the center channel, I assumed he/she probably just wants to play WSound in multi-room mode. We need more details from him/her. 😂

thanks for the clarification! Actually I wasn`t even thinking about a center channel as my frontal setup isn't wide enough, bu maybe have 1 sound lite or 2 as rear surround channel or to unplug it and take it to another room or an outdoor terrace for casual listening, adding a little more reasons for the purchase. I listen a lot to a vintage cd player connected to the WiiM amp so having an extra speaker to provide extra soundstage to a stereo setup seems like a good idea. No orthodox audiophile here jeje just want to take advantage of WiiM`s versatility and have fun. ;)

Thx!

The problem is that when someone says „portable speaker“ companies tend to create aome outdoor, lightweight, crappy sounding mini speaker. But that‘s not what it should be, simply the „Sound“ with a dock for power, or something integrated. So not a different speaker, just a different power supply. Yeah, let‘s hope…

Yeah definitely.. something like The Sonos Roam but better, a little bigger but a little smaller than the WiiM Sound, more travel friendly I guess. A portable speaker that you can dock in and seamlessly integrate into a multi room system through the WiiM App, that would be awesome. I would be more than happy to replace my Bose Revolve II (for outdoor purposes) with this.

nah, still too expensive....i want something like ikea symfonisk price wise...i am running 2 of them and they are working great...looking for possible replacement, but at 540 euros for 2, i don't think so...it has its advantages, but for a price you can build some small system instead...

some wiim mini+fosi amp+small bookshelf speakers, and you still have money left...
