OK. so I'm really confused.

Right now, I would get a WiFi connected speaker to replace my old portable, battery powered Bluetooth. It also runs with a microUSB to keep it charged. on trips I use cast Tidal HiFi to it over bluetooth. It sounds better than nothing... or anything by Bose or Apple. Simple.

So, the use case will be on trips out of home to replace the bluetooth speaker with something that sounds better. The source is an Android phone or Chromebook. Running Tidal. I figure I'll run WiFi.

At home I have a boatload of audio equipment... including FOUR WiiM Ultras driving very, VERY nice DACs over USB. So, I'm sold on the value/performance that WiiM Provides.... but not necessarily on speakers. I use the WiiM Ultras over Tidal Connect and I'm sold on them. Absolutely sold on their bit performance.

I have considered the Brane X but it doesn't provide Tidal Connect.

We're going on vacation in three months, gonna be gone for two months this time... so I'd rather not put up with crappy music for so long.... BUT, I can't carry a WiiM Ultra, a small amp and small Fostex speakers. I mean, I could, but my wife won't be too happy.

So, I'm thinking of going with either a WiiM Sound or Sound Light. But, I'm confused, the more I look into them.

(1) What exactly is the functional difference between the Sound and the Sound Light? I don't use the remotes in our WiiM Ultras except to shut them down.

(2) I will start with a single speaker, if I like it, I might buy a second one to run them in stereo. Can I mix a Sound and a Sound Light?

(3) Do I need the remote to run the Sound? Can I run a Sound without remote or front panel... just as I would run the Sound Light?

(4) How does the WIiM Ultra run with the Sound and Sound Light? I read through the instructions to create a 5.1 set up with two Sounds as remotes and I got to say I'm more confused than before.

(5) What kind of a power brick should I use to run the Sound and Sound Light with a battery?

(6) I don't expect High End sound from them... but... HOW DO THEY SOUND? Honestly.

Hey TonyE! Just to answer some of the top easy ones, I'll let others tag in regarding preferences and the like...

1. None. One has a remote and a built in touch screen, the other doesn't. Other than specific screen related features, they do exactly the same thing functionally.
2. Absolutely.
3. No. Primary control is always through the app, the remote just speeds some things up. It does the same thing the remote your Ultras came with.
4. The Ultra is a separate room, just like any other WiiM device, including the Sound and Sound Lite. You can link them together to play the same thing at the same time. You can set up two Sounds as surrounds for the Ultra if you have home theater in mind. You can set up two Sound or a Sound and Sound Lite as a stereo pair. But from a basic functionality in the app, the Sound and Sound Lite will show up exactly the same way your Ultra does right now.
5. Umm... I can't recommend anything, maybe someone else has an idea and can tag in.
6. Good. :)

Thanks..

If I combine a Sound with a Sound Light into a linked stereo pair... will the remote control both of them?

Yes. Music playback is handled by the group's leader device. The included WiiM Sound remote allows you to control stereo pair playback and adjust the group volume.

OK, so then I get a Sound and a Sound Lite.

For power I get something like this...

Actually, I already have one of these. I guess I just need to know how much power the speaker will use under battery power.

I suppose for powering the WiiM Sound I can plug it into an European outlet with a simple plug adapter... the speaker takes 220VAC/50Hz. The battery charger does too. So I don't need a transformer ( I got one of those too... it takes 240/50Hz into 120/60Hz.. )

But since the speaker has a multi voltage power supply I won't need that... I have these too...

We're going for two months to Spain... so that would be a good start. I can drive it with my Chromebook or Android phone running Tidal HiFi.

Sound...

I did, but I didn't hear a clear description of the SOUND.

I guess at the price point, it;s not a deal breaker. At worst I can use it when we're out on the porch.

I mean, I got lots of speakers, but in this case I'm not looking for a high end experience, just some nice back ground music that we can enjoy while on a long trip away from home. The old bluetooth speaker just doesn't cut it past two weeks.

We've been thinking of spending a lot of our time travelling between Japan, Spain and home. For Japan we're considering buying a small place, so being an audiophile I have already selected/built the audio system... it will be Pass B1 preamp buffer, 10 wpc Class A amps and ported Foxtex.... most likely with a WiiM Ultra and a Schitt DAC.... but in Spain we'll do the airBnB, so that has to be mobile and better than the old bluetooth I got.

Audiophiles travelling... Thank God for the Internet and WiFi...

Actually, that "Japan" set up is delectable. I set it up from stuff I already got.
