WiiM Ultra Firmware v5.2.705437 - Jan 23, 2025

Hi Steve, Team

Thank you for your valuable insights—they’re incredibly helpful! Our goal is to eventually use the smart preset feature as user scenes or shortcuts, so having a friendly name is essential. We’ll be adding the Preset Name option in the next app version, so stay tuned!

In the meantime, please feel free to share any additional feedback about this feature. With your input, we’re confident we can improve it further and make it truly useful and powerful. Thank you again!
tbh, I'm flabbergasted. I gave you this naming feedback in the first few days of the beta.
However, really pleased to hear it'll be implemented!

The upload of pictures as described elsewhere is also mandatory for all types of Preset.

Implement saved settings /profiles and have them associated with a preset viz. https://forum.wiimhome.com/threads/saved-settings-profiles.5049/

That is fantastic.

The only other thing to share is, naming aside, the smart preset function appears to be working exactly as I’d like.

Naming is great. Any chance of customised icons? That’d be the cherry on top of the icing on the cake.

I’d be happy to suggest what icons to include.

It’s ok, @Wiimer has already done that :)

Hi @Steve Woodhouse,

I would be happy to post your custom icon suggestions in that thread as well 😊.

Please review the WiiM Ultra update release notes below. If you encounter any issues, feel free to reach out to us. This firmware update is being rolled out in stages, with devices updating sequentially over the next few days.

5.2.705437 (In Progress)

Release date:

1 / 23 / 2025

What's New:
  1. Smart Preset Enhancement: Added support for the Sub Output option in Smart Presets for greater customization (requires app version 3.1.1+).
  2. Gapless Playback Enhancement: Fixed an issue that caused skipping when playing tracks shorter than 10 seconds.
  3. Playback Enhancements: Fixed playback crashes and resolved a 2-second playback loss issue with the APE audio format.
  4. Resample Algorithm Enhancement: Upgraded the resample algorithm to ensure high sound quality when resampling to 96 kHz or lower.
Bug Fixes:
  1. Subwoofer & Main Speakers Auto-Timing Alignment: Fixed an issue that prevented auto-timing alignment after disconnecting from USB Out.
  2. General Fixes: Various performance improvements and bug fixes.
hi ...
would be good to check the status of the digital outputs and resampling also on the other models ... not just the ultra ...

The good thing here is, if you think about it, what icons do you realistically need? I think we're most of the way there already.

SOURCE

Well, source has largely taken care of. The images for Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, TV, Line In, Phono and Optical In are already there. Okay, you might want to distinguish between different sorts of digital in, as an example, but as there's only one digital in, that's nice rather than necessary. More in a moment on that.

In addition to those already there for source, I think a turntable icon instead of Phono would be good. Let's face it, you're not use this input for anything other than a turntable, and the Phono icon is identical (or almost?) to Line In, so it'd be nice to distinguish between the two. And yes, the other possible digital input is going to be either a CD player, or a PC for 99% of users, so add those two. Any other suggestions, other than the hugely exotic?

OUPUT

Then there's Output, but again if you look on the Output screen on the WiiM there's already Line Out, Optical, Coax, Headphone, USB and Bluetooth, though it would be nice to have 'speaker' as an alternative.

ABILITY TO CUSTOMISE

As in my case, I'd like to use the Headphone icon but without using the WiiM's headphone output. Similarly, someone with their own phono stage may wish to use the turntable icon on Line In, and if they have their own ADC, they may wish to use the turntable icon for digital input. So the flexibility to use whichever icon you like, irrespective of input and output, is important.

So basically, just add add icons for speaker, turntable, CD player, and PC, and let users choose whichever they like, and you're 99% of the way there, I think.

Over to @WiiM Team .

@WiiM Team even "liked" that post on October 30th, then completely ignored it when it came to implementing the feature 🤦‍♂️🤷‍♂️🤔

To be fair, they've had a lot to work on, have clearly been working hard, and can only do so much at once.

I want the icons and names, but I'm happy that they're got smart presets to us at all. I'm happy to put up with what we have now until they can implement the next level.

Having said that, one of my defining characteristics is impatience, so as the prayer goes, "Lord give me patience...but give it to me NOW!" ;)

Yes, but needed. Have the upload functionality let you select between preloaded icons and your own pictures.

I would love that, too. I'm not a software expert (or even amateur) but I suspect having a small library of WiiM's own custom icons will be significantly easier than allowing users own pictures. I may be wrong, though. And I'd certainly like to see it if possible.

Don’t know if this is related to the firmware update or the new home app but on my usb drive under albums, it doesn’t list albums with a number at the front
For example 13 by sabbath
Also …and justice for all disappeared completely I had to re rip it removing the … to make it appear in my library anyone else seeing this issue?

Edit
Ok after a rescan the numbered albums reappeared

I too had trouble with an album starting with "...", though I can't remember what for the life of me. I just removed the dots, and it was fine.

EDIT: I remember now, it was the classic compilation of The Cramps called "...Off the Bone".

Yea I tried that but the log file still had … in it I just reripped it to be safe
Made me nuts looking for the album in the WHA for a hot minute lol

A few years ago, I had the same problem...:
In Unix-like operating systems, any file or folder that starts with a dot character (for example, /home/user/.config), commonly called a dot file or dotfile, is to be treated as hidden – that is, the ls command does not display them unless the -a or -A flags (ls -a or ls -A) are used.[5] In most command-line shells, wildcards will not match files whose names start with . unless the wildcard itself starts with an explicit . .
