WiiM Ultra Firmware v5.2.723250 Update - Jul 15, 2025

Please review the WiiM Ultra update release notes below. If you encounter any issues, feel free to reach out to us. This firmware update is being rolled out in stages, with devices updating sequentially over the next few days.

5.2.723250 (In Progress)

Release date:

7 / 15 / 2025

What's New:
  1. Smart DNS Enhancement: Improved Smart DNS behavior by checking the legitimacy of the DNS server returned by the router.
  2. HDMI ARC Upgrade:
    • Eliminated pop/crackle noises.
    • Added Auto-Sensing for instant TV-audio pickup.
    • Improved the stability of ARC connections.
  3. Advanced Parametric EQ: High-Pass & Low-Pass filters now available (App v3.2.6+ required).
  4. Deezer: "Play Next / Play Last" options added.
  5. Bluetooth: Adjustable latency for perfectly synced audio.

Bug Fixes:
  1. Soundtrack Pairing: Fixed an issue preventing successful soundtrack pairing.
  2. Gapless Playback: Fixed an issue causing incomplete audio playback.
  3. USB Indexing: Corrected the extraction of PNG format covers from MP3 files and fixed a crash issue that caused playback to stop.
  4. Qobuz Connect: Fixed an issue where playback would automatically resume after pausing when using USB output.
  5. Phono Input: Resolved a no-sound issue when editing input mode via the app.

But would also appreciate better regression testing ;)
Agreed. But it's not a matter of regression testing in the case of HP and LP filters for PEQ.

Let's keep our fingers crossed that the display of shelf filters will be corrected in the same go. :D

The first thing I did was turn off the auto sensing for HDMI in the home app.
Did a hard reset of the Ultra and played some music from plex. After around 5 minutes the music goes off and the ultra switches to HDMI.
Did another hard reset, played music from a radio station, same thing, music goes off and ultra switches to HDMI.
When I press the TV remote to on with the ultra in standby, the tv wakes up, switches the ultra to HDMI and plays it's audio thru the ultra as it has always done.
On the Samsung TV, HDMI and CEC are linked and cannot be disabled individually so turning off CEC is not an option.
I guess there is something in this update that is causing this behaviour as it has run perfectly for 9 months. Any further suggestions would be gratefully received before I have to put in a ticket to Wiim.
Hi @CliffyBC,

Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

Please help us investigate by sending feedback through the WiiM Home app: go to the More tab and tap Feedback. Once we receive your report, our engineers will look into it promptly. After that, we will assist in reverting your device to the previous firmware version so you can check if the issue still persists.

Thanks for reaching out to me.
I managed to get it to work eventually by doing a factory reset and starting afresh.
I now just have the auto sense turned on and it works mainly as it did. I say mainly as the ultra doesn't switch across to HDMI as fast as it did.
My question to Wiim support is why do you keep messing about with HDMI, it has worked for me absolutely perfectly for 9 months and your "improvements" broke it. I really didn't want to do a factory reset as I had everything working exactly as I wanted.
I normally block my Ultra's access to the Internet when I see a Firmware update released. Unfortunately I didn't do that this time and things didn't work out so good.
Ah well, it is what it is.
Have a good day.

Wouldn't that be great if WiiM was developing their devices for you only? If they didn't care about anybody else on this planet? ;) Potential disadvantages: This forum would be a rather empty, lonesome place and the price they ask you to pay might go up a tad.

Unfortunately, not all TVs work the same when it comes to HDMI ARC and some customers have really weird needs, claiming that these would be covered by the HDMI standard. For whatever reason WiiM still try to make it work for them and their TVs.

So far there's been only one firmware release since the advent of the WiiM Ultra that broke it for me. They did something right there. ;)

I'm pretty philosophical about things, as I said towards the end "it is what it is".
I do appreciate what the Wiim team are trying to do for all us folks who have invested in their gear and maybe I came across as a little ungrateful, which wasn't my intention.
But it's probably time to tap the tinkering with HDMI on the head as it seems to be a never ending task when trying to improve it for one person, breaks it for someone else.
Just one thing I'd like to see, no forced installation of firmware updates. As I've said before I'm not keen on that idea, I like to hang back and maybe let others take the pain if the update goes pear.
😄

Understood. ;)

I'm afraid it is a never ending story anyway because devices behave just so differently, which is a shame. I don't have a solution for this dilemma. Maybe except ...

... making this happen at one point in time. It's not as easy as it may seem, because certain WiiM Home app features will rely on certain firmware features and vice versa. At some point in time it won't make sense to block a newer firmware release and - as somebody else just pointed out - the first and foremost question in any support case will always be: What firmware version are you on? And if it's not the latest, the first instruction will always be: update to the latest release.

I'd love to not see forced updates. Let the reminder pop up more and more often if it's become really essential to perform the update (let's not forget about security updates like fixing vulnerable libraries). But finally, let me decide on my own.

I'm using wiim amp and I've been dealing with hdmi hijacking issues since this firmware update. I'm surprised the same issue was reported 2 days ago. Why didn't they block the firmware update?

There's no general issue. This thread is about the WiiM Ultra firmware. There's nothing that needs to be "blocked".

I'm having trouble following your description of the issues you are facing.

Whatever you do, don't just post here. Send feedback to WiiM through the WiiM Home app

Supporters said to me,
You can also try troubleshooting your issue in our WiiM Forum and hear back from other WiiM users.

I didn't know if I was allowed to write on another thread.

It makes sense to use the troubleshooting forum for your specific device, not any random firmware announcement thread. That's what the troubleshooting forums are for. :)

Apple TV remote does not control volume now for music as it always has for months now. The remote works as usual for TV, just no other input on Wiim Ultra. This is only happening now after the recent update.

That is actually how it shall work. Only controlling the WiiM volume when the WiiM is outputting the TV sound.

There is definitely an issue with this firmware update.

My system has worked perfectly for months.

This update totally breaks HDMI Arc. In my case - sometimes when it switches to HDMI Arc - there is no sound. The TV reverts to Internal Speakers. Switching it back to HDMI Arc doesn't work until I power cycle both the WiiM and the TV. LG G4.

How do we roll back to a working system? This firmware entirely breaks my set up - clearly not regression tested properly. It's definitely a firmware issue not a troubleshooting issue as the setup has worked smoothly for a long time prior to this update.

I'm sorry to hear that you are experiencing troubles after updating to the latest firmware.

Please note that I did not say that nobody is having any issues with it. I just said that there's no general issue. It still works perfectly fine for me and (I suppose) for those not complaining.

It's plain impossible to test against each and every HDMI ARC compatible TV that's ever been release. If you want to be part of the solution make sure to send feedback through the WiiM Home app as soon as you encounter the problem.

After unplugging the power cable from the TV and WiiM, try reconnecting the HDMI cable and then turning on the power.
