WiiM Ultra Firmware v5.2.714249 - Apr 18, 2025

Hi hgo58,

I’m not sure I fully understand your requirement—could you please elaborate a bit more?

In general, if you prefer to use your TV’s internal speakers, you can select them directly in your TV’s audio settings. When you want to switch to the WiiM device, simply select external speakers as the output target.

The option you're referring to is designed for a special case:
If the TV is set to external speakers but the WiiM device is in a different input mode (not HDMI), the device won't automatically switch to HDMI unless this setting is enabled.

Let me know if you need any further clarification—I’m happy to help!
It seems to be very very hard to explain this, so that WiiM understands it. I have multiple posts and tickets regarding this issue, seen on many TVs (mine is a Sony Bravia).

I will try again!

When the WiiM Ultra is in standby and I turn on the TV, the TV sees the Ultra as being online and the TV changes its sound output to ARC instead of staying on the internal speakers. The Ultra stay in standby as it should, as the HDMI mode is off.

So I have no sound from the TV until I either unplug the HDMI cable, change the WiiM Ultra input to TV and back again, or change the speakers in a sub menu on the TV. This happens every time I turn on the TV.

There is no way to configure the TV to ignore the CEC signal from the WiiM Ultra. It will always switch.

Note that I only want to use the WiiM Ultra HDMI ARC sound when watching movies and then I will manually select the TV input option on the WiiM Ultra.

The input selection part work as expected when the TV is already on. Enabling and disabling the ARC correctly. It's only when turning on the TV with Ultra in standby and the HDMI mode off, there is this issue.

The TV power on issue was fixed in a beta firmware version (5.2.706937) but never implemented in the main release.

See also ticket #524255 and related mails.

As the HDMI CEC is badly defined, there are also TV models that are handling this differently and is ignoring the false CEC signal from the WiiM Ultra in standby state, so maybe not noted by @WiiM Team when testing. Please test with a Sony Bravia TV.

Hi!

I was very happy with my new Wiim Ultra, but since the last update both Spotify and Amazon music skips and glitches the songs like crazy, I was about to do a factory reset and disable update but just found YOU CANT DISABLE UPDATES, seriously???

I've tried doing a reset many times and even unplugged the player from the power, but player keeps skipping randomly :/

Since I got it from amazon Im about to ask my money back if there is no way to go back to the stable firmware version...

yup there needs to be an option to turn off updates. It updated mine automatically, I switched things from the wall.

What if I switch it off during an auto update?

Raise a ticket to WiiM asking to be put back in to an earlier version. That will also allow them to look at your device logs and hopefully identify the root cause of your issues.

You could try to install one of the older beta testing versions and see if this helps.

I am also running latest firmware version and has no issues with Spotify or Tidal.

What is your TV audio setting currently configured to? If you set it to external speakers (via WiiM), your WiiM Ultra should automatically wake up—even if it’s in standby mode. If you set it to internal speakers, the WiiM Ultra should remain in standby.

Are you seeing any issues with this behavior, or is your device acting differently from what I described? Also, could you clarify what you mean by "HDMI mode is off"?
So I have no sound from the TV until I either unplug the HDMI cable, change the WiiM Ultra input to TV and back again, or change the speakers in a sub menu on the TV. This happens every time I turn on the TV.
Before unplugging the HDMI cable, could you check your TV’s audio output setting? It sounds like your TV is set to output audio to the WiiM, but the WiiM Ultra hasn’t switched to the HDMI input, which would explain why there's no sound. If that's the case, it suggests there may be an HDMI ARC behavior issue.
Please send us a feedback ticket through the app so we can investigate further.
There is no way to configure the TV to ignore the CEC signal from the WiiM Ultra. It will always switch.
Understand.
Note that I only want to use the WiiM Ultra HDMI ARC sound when watching movies and then I will manually select the TV input option on the WiiM Ultra.
When you watch a movie, you switch the TV audio setting from TV speakers to external speakers, correct?
When you make this switch, does the WiiM Ultra successfully play the TV audio? After you finish watching, what changes (if any) do you make to your TV’s audio settings? We'd like to better understand your setup to assist you further.

Just did it, I hope they install the older firmware back, Im really pissed right now, when I finally had time to seat and enjoy some music the player starts acting, and only cos they want to force updates on MY player, I dont really like that part...

Interesting, Do you know if there is information here on how to do it? will the FORCED-update replace the beta firm or cos is a beta will let it be?

Hi retrodave79,

I'm sorry for the inconvenience caused. Please kindly send us a feedback ticket through the WiiM Home App, and we’ll work to resolve the issue for you right away. If needed, we can also roll back your firmware to the previous version.

Thank you for your patience and continued support!

Device info/join beta testing. Beta firmware will remain until you select to go back to public firmware.

So still hard for @WiiM Support to understand I see

This has nothing to do with how the WiiM Ultra wake up or not.

This is as about the TV behavior when it is turned on and connected to the WiiM Ultra.
Are you seeing any issues with this behavior, or is your device acting differently from what I described? Also, could you clarify what you mean by "HDMI mode is off"?
The Ultra device setting "Automatically output to WiiM when TV is on" is disabled.
So the WiiM is not responding to the TV turning on.
Before unplugging the HDMI cable, could you check your TV’s audio output setting? It sounds like your TV is set to output audio to the WiiM, but the WiiM Ultra hasn’t switched to the HDMI input, which would explain why there's no sound.
Of course there is no sound. The Ultra forces the TV to change to output sound via HDMI ARC but the Ultra stay in standby.
The Ultra shall stay in standby but it shall not be seen as online on the CEC protocol. This is where the issue is.

If that's the case, it suggests there may be an HDMI ARC behavior issue.
Yes. The WiiM Ultra do not behave correctly when in standby with "Automatically output to WiiM when TV is on" disabled.
Please send us a feedback ticket through the app so we can investigate further.
I have several tickets open that has not been responded to, including the one listed in my latest post.

@WiiM Support has asked almost the same questions several times over the last 8 months.

When you watch a movie, you switch the TV audio setting from TV speakers to external speakers, correct?
Yes, either via the WHA or via the TV sub menus. For now I have to insert the HDMI cable also, as it's not connected due to this issue.
When you make this switch, does the WiiM Ultra successfully play the TV audio?
Yes. Everything else works as expected.
After you finish watching, what changes (if any) do you make to your TV’s audio settings? We'd like to better understand your setup to assist you further.
I just select another input on the WiiM and the TV changes back to internal speakers. That's working as expected.
Thank you, we'd like to better understand your situation to assist you further.
Please see all the other post about this in the forum and the feedback I did on the beta test that actually fixed the issue.

Please check the code for the beta test version 5.2.706937. It worked as it should for all HDMI CEC functionality.

Hi hgo58,

Thank you for your reply. I'm a bit stubborn, hopefully you don't mind.

It seems there may be some confusion about what the "Automatically output to WiiM when TV is on" option actually does.
As explained in our FAQ, disabling this option does not turn off the CEC protocol on the WiiM Ultra. Instead, it simply means the Ultra won’t wake up if it’s not already set to HDMI mode. If it is in HDMI mode, it will still wake up as expected.

Our goal is to always keep the CEC protocol enabled on the Ultra to ensure proper HDMI communication.

It sounds like what you’re asking for is an additional option to manually turn CEC on or off for the Ultra—am I understanding that correctly? Thanks again for your feedback!

No, I'm not. And it's generally working as it should.

The CEC should be enabled but when the WiiM Ultra is in standby and it is not waking up, it shall behave as if the TV input setting is disabled.

As it is now, it behave as if you are selecting the TV input although still in standby. So the TV changes speakers to ARC.

The setting is of course not changed but that is what the TV get via the CEC protocol.

No. Just that the TV don't see the WiiM Ultra as online and a source for ARC output, when the WiiM Ultra is actually in standby.

As stated in the other posts. This was working in the beta test version.

I’m sure many user has either or both services but none of them reporting a problem. There maybe something on setup causing the issue. Send message via wiim app and your log will be sent to them to be examined.

One thing that is never mentioned is: should the TV ARC be set Enhanced or Standard format? This is what Sony calls it.

I have seen bitrates of 3mbps I think, not sure if that is for both L+R or what bitrate Standard will handle.

With the TV set to PCM no use of DD on the Ultra?

WiiM only support ARC, not eARC.

Since posting an hour ago, I’ve been casting from the Amazon Music app to my Ultra connected to the vibelink amp with no issues either

By HDMI mode, I’m referring to when the WiiM Ultra is set to the HDMI ARC input mode.

From what you’re describing, it sounds like you're requesting that the WiiM Ultra should not wake up from standby when the TV is turned on. However, we may not fully agree with this approach.

When you set your TV’s audio output to the WiiM, we want the WiiM Ultra to automatically wake up when you power on your TV—even if the Ultra is in standby. This ensures a seamless experience without requiring users to manually power on the device.

This is precisely why many users appreciate HDMI CEC—it allows them to use a single remote to control both the TV and the WiiM Ultra, making everything easier and more intuitive.

For your situation, I recommend turning off the "Automatically output to WiiM when TV is on" option and switching the WiiM Ultra’s input to a non-HDMI mode. With this setup, when you turn on your TV, the WiiM Ultra should not respond to CEC commands—assuming your TV correctly implements the CEC protocol. However, if your TV does not fully implement CEC commands (such as properly responding to the 'audio output switch' command by WiiM Ultra), you may need to manually change the audio output setting on your TV.

Thanks again for sharing your feedback—we truly value it!

I'm also using the Ultra with a TV. My ideal setup would be a switch that would either:
* turn on the Ultra when the TV is turned on, control the volume with TV remote, turn off the Ultra with the TV (this is currently working), or
* turn on the Ultra only with Wiim remote - when the TV is turned on, it will use internal speaker, as if the HDMI cable is not connected

I understand that the current implementation does not support it, I have to change the Ultra input to something else than HDMI for the 2nd option to work, but that is one extra step for the user. Would you consider this?
