Please review the WiiM Ultra update release notes below. If you encounter any issues, feel free to reach out to us. This firmware update is being rolled out in stages, with devices updating sequentially over the next few days.

5.2.715362 (In Progress)

Release date:

4 / 29 / 2025

Bug Fixes:
  1. Reverted HDMI behavior: auto-switches to HDMI when other inputs stop. Power-off CEC option to be added in next release for standby mode.
  2. Playing Queue Fix: Now displays full queue for playlists over 1000 tracks (previously limited to 50).

I really don't hope so. That would be very bad.

In CEC Power Control on mode it shall just NOT disabled the ARC at any time and it shall allow HDMI ARC auto sensing to detect if TV is outputting sound.

When CEC Power Control is off it shall disable ARC at any time except when HDMI is selected as input.

Are you sure that is what you want?
Your TV will still change to internal speakers when you select another input.
I should wait and see how it actually works, once the firmware is installed. ;)

But if it works like it did before the last version, everything was fine for me.

The description is different than the heading - ifnit it's reverted to previous version IT should just not try to switch tv settings.

Let us just change the wiim input, but not mess with tv output. (As an option).

I never want to use tv's internal speakers again in my life.

I don't think so.

It means that when the TV is on and the Wi-Fi music is stopping the input automatically switches to HDMI and the TV audio comes back to WiiM. This is the same behavior as before.

If nothing else, there must be an option to allow exactly this.

Within the limits of the broken by documentation HDMI CEC standard. 🤪
And I never want the TV to change to ARC unless I ask for it ;)

So I hope the "standard" can handle this also.

As we keep saying as we go in circles in multiple threads, both are entirely possible. It’s just about having a toggle switch in the app to fully disable/power-down the HDMI when the Ultra is in standby (meaning TV doesn’t even register the cable connection) or having the HDMI active when Ultra is in standby. It’s not a tricky thing and a million HDMI ARC devices offer these behavior settings.

I agree, except for this part:

I think it actually is very tricky. There might be millions of devices out there supporting ARC. But do a search on any random AV related forum and you will find hundreds and hundreds of threads dealing with ARC/CEC problems.

Even if we don't count in the problems caused by each TV maker using their own terminology and users not understanding that there are different settings and only one HDMI ARC port, the result is still a mess. I absolutely sure that all AVR makers maintain their own databases of strangely behaving TVs instead of just implementing "the standard".

Except we’re not talking about the finer points of HDMI and CEC like volume and power control or universal remote capabilities. Or with the Ultra specifically, how the TV behaves when the Ultra is set to different inputs or outputs.

The case I’m talking about is pretty fundamental. One of you wants the TV to always see the ARC connection, even in standby, and one of you (plus me) wants the TV to see it only when the Ultra is fully powered on. That’s just a matter of completely disabling the HDMI port when the unit is on standby, or not, and letting that behavior be set in the app. If the Ultra’s HDMI completely shuts down it doesn’t matter what the peculiarities of the TV model are. It simply does not see the ARC endpoint, just like if you had a loose HDMI cable plugged into the TV. Nothing happens.

And that is exactly what should happen when the CEC Power Control is off (the one now called "Automatically output audio to WiiM when TV is on")

I agree that this one toggle switch should pretty much be the solution ... but might just not be intended by the standard ... 🤷‍♂️

Except that isn't exactly how CEC works when a Cable is presented after NOT being present. Many CEC-enabled devices try to "Train" (re-learn) the Remote Device capabilities, and most HDMI Devices will initiate a full handshake. (This is unlikely desirable - either the Delay or the potential change in actions).

My low-budget AV processor from 2012 begs to differ (Emotiva UMC-200 — thread here more about it). That’s how long this has been a solved problem.

AV processor turned on? TV immediately registers the ARC connection, routes the audio there, and controls the AV processor’s volume. AV processor on standby? The AV HDMI port fully shuts down, TV says goodbye like it was never there, and TV speakers take over the audio. This doesn’t even require a power cycle, it’s on-the-fly. The TV has no choice but revert to internal speakers if it loses the ARC connection. What else is it going to do, keep insisting on sending the audio signal to nowhere?

Anything can be done.

Previous to "Smart" HDMI, ultra worked as soundbar, without modifyig tv setup.

Just allow users to choose from different options.

Now IT looks like tug of war.
Wiim team is implementing solutions for some complains that breaks backwards compatiliblity.

Any scenario can be covered. But now i feel like i have unwanted behavior - tv switches to internal speakers when i set IT to use external speakers and wiim is physically attached.

The scenario when i will want to hear music from wiim and at the same time sound from tv is not a standard situation.

Actually it sounds like everything was working as expected 2-3 releases ago, except for the HDMI state when the WiiM is in standby and CEC Power Control is off?
