Don't get me wrong, I don't question that it still doesn't work the way you want it with your TV. This is obviously the case.

That's just no different from what it was before. It might have improved thins in different configurations, I don't know. At least it didn't break what I still see as the standard use case of HDMI ARC: Permanently replacing the TV's speakers with the audio system's speakers.
The behaviour has changed and to the worse. The standard defines that the CEC control can be turned off. This is no longer the case for the WiiM.

I'm a dissenting voice here in that the HDMI update:

-works exactly as I'd hoped / expected
-solves a problem I had (input switching to HDMI automatically when I didn't want it to)

Thanks Wiim team!!

Note: my experience with the settings is as @Wiimer outlines

A brief test of ARC was carried out on an Amp Ultra to IFFALCON (TCL) TV. As long as I always used Ultra speakers, no problems occurred.

Auto-sensing : on
Automatically..... : on

Playing Spotify during TV playback switches to music, stopping the music switches back to TV. Switching on the TV while music is playing switches to HDMI.

Auto-sensing : on
Automatically..... : off

If I switch on the TV while music is playing, it does not switch to HDMI. If stop the music and play the TV, it switches to HDMI. I can use the WiiM TV app with this setting without any problems.

Auto-sensing : off
Automatically..... : on

Stopping Spotify does not switch the input back to HDMI. Switching the TV off and on again will switch to HDMI.
The Automatically TV is on toggle on the WHA is greyed out.

Auto-sensing : off
Automatically..... : off

The input never switches to HDMI.

In either mode, sound will come from the TV speakers if the TV is switched to the built-in speakers.

There is no ARC audio delay.

#This is a short test. It may be that...
I may have missed something somewhere.
Just got the update
It is strange that I do not have auto sensing of optical setting
Optical is not connected, but option was present earlier as combined for optical/HDMI

I just managed to do exactly that for 15 minutes while the TV continued to run it's program via satellite. And that's with both settings mentioned by @Wiimer enabled.

The trouble with HDMI CEC/ARC is that it all depends on the TV maker's implementation. The standard itself is crappy. What works with one TV doesn't with the next one.
Thanks for your help, I did a factory reset eventually.
I then tried what I did before, playing music and the ultra switched to HDMI on its own after about 5 minutes again
I went into settings and both autosense and automatically output to wiim toggles were on.
I turned off the automatically output toggle and just left autosense on.
The Ultra now works as it did before the update, it turns on to HDMI input when I turn on my TV.
And it doesn't switch to HDMI randomly when I play music. Hopefully it is OK now, only time will tell.
If I had to hazard a guess, the update was leaving some code behind when the new firmware was installed causing problems?
A factory reset would have removed all the old updates and just left a new copy of the latest firmware.
That's just a guess, I spent the last 20 years in It support and we had this numerous times but of cause I could be absolutely wrong as my wife often says I am. 🤣 Thanks again
