For fidelity you need to control volume from a lossless volume control . Wiim ultra volume is not lossless so it makes sense to use the volume control of vibelink amp or your integrated amp

Using an analogue volume control brings its own issues.

And, of course, using the Vibe’s volume is a non-starter if you have a sub attached to the Ultra.

The Ultra has a very good volume control. I’m willing to bet that you cannot hear it doing anything else than it’s task.

I think it would be better if you set the volume of Ultra to 100%, then gradually increase the volume of Vibelink to the maximum volume for you, and then fix the volume of Vibelink.

I agree to this method. This is consistent with the best practice to set the gain structure for pro audio. What's unknown is a gain factor of the Vibelink. I speculate Vibelink's input gain is optimized for Ultra's maximum output voltage.
