Agreed.
It physically stayed plugged in, but did not maintain a power connection. I was hoping I could push it in hard enough to stay, but no luck.
Do you have another IEC C7 style power cord to try? I'd expect this to more likely be an issue with the cable.

If a replacement unit is underway you might not be too much interested in fiddling around with it, though. :)

If power chord even remotely struggles to maintain a connection I'd be having it swapped out and not interested in tying to fix it, a loose connection could end up being bad news and at £300 a unit I'd want one issue-free.

True. Did anybody suggest fixing the power cord?

Good call. You are correct, I found an alternate cable and it maintained the connection.
I will submit a ticket and see if WiiM wants to send me a replacement cable or what. The boss did not like the fact that my spare cable was not white for where the speaker will be sitting in the kitchen (her domain).

I might even find a place for the second WiiM Sound :D

I had a power cord from Amazon attached to my former Amp Ultra. It had the shorter length I wanted. But it did not hold a secure connection. The stock cable that came with the unit was fine however.
They cost next to nothing and I even have a collection from previous devices of all sorts. Testing another power cord is always a good idea.

The plot thickens….

First, I will start with the good news. My 2nd WiiM Sound (ordered yesterday) was delivered this evening. The power cord is slid in and made good connection all is well. You have to love the out of box experience and setup with WiiM. They have done a very nice job with the software.

Now of course, after setting up WiiM Sound #2, I decided to see what would happen if I tried the power cord from the first Sound and used it with Sound #2. Well, it worked just fine. It powered on and stayed without any issue. The I the cord from Sound #2 in the Sound #1 (are you still following me here?) and that also did not work.

So here is my conclusion. The power cord for the WiiM Sound is a snug fit (that is a good thing), but the tolerance on my first unit (WiiM Sound #1) is clearly too tight and is not connecting with the included cord. The alternate cord that I tried is a tad thinner in the plastic around the connector and slides much easer and makes a solid connection in either speaker but is not as snug a fit. So although using an alternate cord is a solution, I think it is best that I send the unit back to WiiM as the factory delivered cord should fit the device.

@harkpabst, I appreciate the suggestion and it was good to test and see what the real problem was. Nothing wrong with the power cord it turns out. It is the receptacle in the first unit that was just too tight for the included cord.

Hopefully the fact that my 2nd unit is good means the issue is just a fluke that slipped by. Although it does suggest that the power cord used for final test at the factory may not be as tight of fit as the included cord or this issue would have been caught at that time.

Do you really think that a company in the price region for a Sound has either a human or a robot testing every unit and a single cable??

Could the pins on the power port be bent?

I am convinced that there are tiny distributions with the required dimensions. Happens with OEM parts. Exactly this problem I've had recently with a Mac. Got a new cable, they didn't even want the old one back. Thank God it was the male's and not the female's fault. Would have made things more complicated for sure. 😉

I am not sure where your question is coming from but yes I do believe every unit is tested or else I would not have stated that.

And to be clear, who said anything about a single cable? I would expect they have a rig which allows them to quickly test multiple units simultaneously as part of a final test before packing and shipping. And yes, just like every chip is baked in an oven and run through a test program before being shipped to WiiM’s contract manufacturer, I would expect that their CM power cycles and has a test program that is runs on every unit before it ships and that does require a power connection.

I don’t think so since the alternate cable I had which came from an old Apple TV connected no problem. But I have already packed it back up and would need to unpack it again to check that more closely.

It is all about believing 😂
And of course they will have such function tests. But most likely not with the dedicated power cord and the dedicated unit.

Just got mine yesterday and I am playing around with it today.

Set it up in the bedroom to be able to play back some music before going to bed. In that regard I appreciate the 30 second screen timeout on standby, though it is still pretty bright in its lowest brightness setting. Something to play around with.

It's currently linked with the Ultra I have set up downstairs (open floor split level apartment) and I haven't been able to hear any noticeable delays. It's not as much of a sparkly bassmonster as my speakers downstairs but it definitely sounds pretty nice.

I absolutely love the spinning album cover playback screen, though I wish it could be combined with the progress ring with text. It makes a full rotation in about 35 seconds I think.

Eventually I might want to connect it over ethernet but right now it's doing just fine over 5 GHz wifi.

No issues with the power cable except it being a bit stiff the first time I tried plugging it in.

Overall pretty happy!

Next thing will be integrating it into Home Assistant and using it to play back some notifications.

I got my Sound for Christmas.
Have to say that I'm quite impressed with whats coming out of this small box. Well done, WiiM!!(y)

One word of warning though. Once you have taken the speaker out of the packaging box, DON'T close it again. Without the weight of the speaker inside to drag the bottom part down it becomes almost impossible to reopen it. It takes two people for that, with one pulling on each end.😂

Yep, had exactly the same problen myself.
Fortunately I'm usually bare foot, so toes to the rescue!

As I am new, forgive me if this has already been asked... I have had the Wiim sound touch speaker since November... My question is, now that the new Sound Lite is available for purcahase can you pair a Touch with a Lite for true stereo separation?

Yes, just group them and assign one as the left channel and the other as the right.
