Beta Test: Plex

Hi not a big deal but noticed using plex in the app when I listen to compilation albums instead of the artist name it just states 'various artists' but as you can see the album is correct in plex itself!, anything I can do to fix this or is plex within the app not quite there yet?, thanks.

Drop WiiM a line via the feedback section in the app and they may consider changing it, but it’s not the first place where it doesn’t pick up track artist, just album artist.

Oh boy, no bueno... I have a lot of compilations and dj mixes with various artists. Curious to see how the WiiM app will handle them (I've got my Ultra on the way currently)

Maybe in your case you should also check the tags from the actual files themselves?

I struggle with the same thing in WiiMs app (not Plex inside WiiM). A lot of DJ-compilations where the DJ are set as the Album-artist, but these artists don’t show under the artist-list in the WiiM-app. I see that all these tracks are mixed under Various artists with just the Track-name as info. Even though all tags are checked correct in file browser on a computer. I have to use «browse by folder» in the WiiM-app to find them.

In native Plex-ap they are correct.

A nice example yet again showing why plexamp endpoint makes more sense.

How Plex handles Various Artists/multi-artist albums is extremely limited and just plain wrong. However in Plexamp you get a workaround view imo.

So what WiiM does here is even more wrong handling of this strange exception. So now you are requested to workaround a stupid workaround of Plex.

@WiiM Support, @RyanWithWiim any news on Plexamp as endpoint? :)

I'm really disappointed by this Plex integration feature.

Wiim was praised for their software support and continuous flow of new feature. This was a pro argument before buying.

This crappy Plex integration is a sign they don't know what to do any more so they grab anything to show off. This has been poorly researched then poorly implemented. What a waste of time for both the dev team and the customer. This unbelievable that such a project has been lead to term without considering Plexamp.

This is a limitation of the Plex DLNA interface not the WHA; in all DLNA/UPnP control points you'll see the same thing.
Plex only makes sense if you're using PlexAmp, and even then you're really limited to what you can cast.

I can't remember this being an issue during the time I had my WiiM Pro... Will check soon :)

My music library is managed & tagged using Apple Music

There's a better implementation on the way probably :)

Ok, so this is a problem when using Plex DLNA for server and playback from WHA itself? (Meaning not from the Plex inside WHA)

I'm pretty sure (will check later) that the UI in Plex (Web UI) and Symfonium only show album artists in their artist index, so it may be a limitation in that API too.

Whilst they may not show track artists in the artist index they do show them in track view, which is something I suppose.

EDIT: I've just had a look in PlexAmp (non-PlexPass) and even it doesn't display track artists in the artist index, so no chance WiiM will.

They're not even returned in searches in PlexAmp, but are in the WHA (Plex integration)!

Just had a look into this in Plexamp (Plexpass subscription)

The only limitation is that individual artists part of a compilation or dj mix (with album artist set to "Various Artists") will not show up in the alphabetical Artist index - this is probably generated based on the album artist tag, not by the individual track artist.

For example I can't find Ned Doheny in the artist index, however it does return search results for the individual tracks in my collection.

I stand corrected. If you search for their full name (no partial matching), tracks are returned but only for Various Artists albums.

Just installed my Ultra 😍

Smooth sailing until I wanted to set up Plex (in its current form).

My server apparently is on a 'other' network 😛
(no it is not, although I am running Tailscale VPN on it to make time machine backups from outside my home)

"Anti-climatic" is an understatement even

I'm having an issue with Plex on the WiiM app (iPhone 16). Some albums do not show up under "Artist" but they are there if I look under "Albums" or "Tracks." Does anyone have a solution for correcting this? TIA!

Best submitting a ticket via the feedback section in the app to get it checked out by WiiM.

"On other network" happened to me too.
My Nas is connected directly (due to Plex remote Direct play) to my router and my wifi was in a mesh network(a couple Xiaomi Ax300) at home.
The thing was that my mesh was creating a subnet (Nas was in 192.168.1.110 and Wiim on wifi was 192.168.31.145)so I had to reconfigure my wifi to Acces points instead of mesh.
This is my experience and how I fixed it.
This can be your case or not, but I wanted to write it down, just in case someone is in similar situation.
Hope it helps!

Thanks for the tip!

I actually have a very simple network, using my ISP's provided modem/router.

Still, I went ahead and checked the settings.

My subnet mask is 255.255.254.0
The gateway is x.x.128.1
The DHCP pool ranges from x.x.129.20 to x.x.x.255 (still in the same subnet)

My NAS had a static IP x.x.128.128 and the WiiM automatically got assigned an address in the x.x.129.x range.

I fixed the issue by bringing my NAS' static IP in the x.x.129.x range, but this shouldn't have been a problem! Seems like WiiM is not reading the subnet mask correctly. And why all of this even matters with a Plex Server boggles my mind. So far for ease of use :)

Okay finally got Plex working and it's the same issue here.
