Ongoing Beta Beta Testing: Wireless Dolby 5.1 for WiiM Ultra

USB and line-out at the same time?
Welcome.

I think you are referring to what people have been asking for for a long time - the ability to send the audio to more than one output concurrently..
Despite wiim stating, for the ultra at least, "We can output to all channels simultaneously with software update that we will do later.", afaik there's been no indication that this may be coming, or even on the roadmap.

Anyone having recent issues with the setup? It was working well for me, but now when I enable the Dolby I get sound for about one second, and it goes to mute. I actually removed the beta and reapplied it and no change. I also verified that my LG is set to PCM on the HDMI.

@WiiM Support @WiiM Team I hope you can get Dolby 5.1 working on the WiiM Amp Pro. I've been holding off on my review of it because I wanted to talk about that new feature.
Hi Joentell,

We’re releasing a new beta firmware version for the WiiM Amp Pro that addresses the Dolby 5.1 playback distortion issue. Once it’s available, please give Dolby 5.1 another try.

@WiiM Team We could really use this ability. Plenty of reasons for wanting to output to more than one thing at a time. I for one have a spectrum analyzer that I wish to feed and currently I am forced to split the USB output with a DDC and then attach a cheap DAC to the second output to feed a signal to the spectrum analyzer. I'm sure others have their own reasons for wanting a second output.

Hi Joentell,

I'm not having a distortion issue as the option doesn't show at all on the WiiM Amp Pro. It works on the Ultra.

Thank you. That's the version I'm currently using on the WiiM Amp Pro. It doesn't show 5.1 as an option. It does on the WiiM Ultra though. Someone else verified that it isn't working on the Amp Pro also.
Hi joentell,

For a detailed setup guide, please check out this article: Setting Up a WiiM Dolby 5.1 Surround Sound System

If the 5.1 option is still unavailable, please send us feedback via the WiiM Home app, and our engineers will investigate it promptly.

My perception is that you misunderstood @joentell's point.

The issue we posted Here and There still seems to be unresolved on the Amp pro.

In other words, the Dolby icon did not appear on the WHA when playing Dolby on the TV. However, I only tried it once right after the app update was made to fix this issue. Sorry if i have misunderstood.

Thanks very much for your help.

Hi Joentell,

It looks like there may be an issue with your WiiM Amp Pro. Please use the WiiM Home app to send us feedback, and our engineers will address it as quickly as possible.

@WiiM Support @WiiM Team Please check your .1 LFE implementation. It doesn't seem to be playing that channel when using our Spatial Audio Calibration Toolkit. For example, if I play the 5.1 version, there's not much bass. If I set it to stereo and use the normal bass management with the crossover to the subs, the same test tracks are significantly louder with deeper bass extension.

Also, it seems that the bass extension is cut off wherever the crossover is set for the subs, so the subs aren't getting bass. Switching from 5.1 to stereo, or unlinking the rear surrounds doesn't help. Sometimes I get a crackling sound. Rebooting seems to fix things but I need to do more testing. This is with an AppleTV 4K.

Hi Joentell,

Thank you for sharing your feedback. I’ll pass it along to our engineers right away.

In the meantime, could you also send your feedback through the WiiM Home app? It will help us review and address the issues more effectively.

Updated:

We are aware of the bass loss issue. Currently, the subwoofer’s output is not true .1 channel data; it’s a mix of low-frequency signals from the front and center channels. Our engineers are actively working on a fix.

It's a tricky implementation since the sub out will need to play the bass managed low-passed content from LCR and preferably the surrounds as well, and the dedicated .1 LFE content. If it isn't implemented properly the signals can phase cancel each other before it even gets to the sub
